Yes, if one goes by the trade figures. The biggest hit prior to Drishyam was Twenty20 (starring Mohanlal, Mammootty and almost all top stars in Malayalam cinema) which had collected Rs 32 crore. Drishyam has doubled the collections, that way. I can't comment about Bangalore Days and its figures. I really liked the film and I don't attach any importance to debates on box-office figures......

Now, as Papanasam crossed 100 crores mark, we can expect backlash from the hype masters. It will affect their business very much, because Papanasam released with out any pre-release hype and no broken records tweet about the first day collection. Now, it seems some guys make living out of this spinning business. All they need is twitter account and page from some web sites. Now, they will find it hard to sell their wares because people will start quoting the Papanasam and will say movies doesn't need these hype, the content is important. (A dialogue in UV). The hype masters had a moto of tell a lie repeatedly and it will become truth, because, no one can prove anything. It sounds like Papanasam Movie Theme.
Is Kamal wanted to prove the dialogue from UV. So, no hype or no buildup before release.
Watched it again last night. The second half is simply superb. Next to Sivaji only Kamal seems to bring the best out of co actors. The acting of K Mani, Asha and Anand Mahadevan were simply brilliant.
