Rahman’s new muse
In the music industry, it couldn’t get any bigger than A R Rahman for reigning beauty queen, Pantaloons Femina Miss India-International 2011, Ankita Shorey. She is his new muse and is playing the lead in the maestro’s latest music video — Baari Hamaari Hai.
Featuring the youth of India, who like to enjoy every moment of their lives to the hilt, this video, which features Rahman in a funky new avatar has Ankita playing an uber talented new-age girl. “It’s all about celebration of life. I had great fun doing all sorts of activities, right from Bharatnatyam to playing volleyball to river rafting in the rapids, all in one shot,” says Ankita bubbling with enthusiasm.
“To me, Rahman’s the God of music. After he bagged an Oscar for Jai Ho... (Slumdog Millionaire fame), where he’s worked with the Pussycat Dolls, Baari Hamaari Hai is his next new release. This is also the first time Rahman’s selected a fresh face and a Miss India talent in his video. And I am honoured with this opportunity to showcase my potential,” she adds.
“Rahman is very humble and down to earth. I was awestruck by his simplicity on the sets while shooting the song. When he won the Oscars, I had never imagined that I would get to work so soon with him in my life. I’m glad I was the chosen one,” she says.
After winning the Miss India crown, Ankita’s already receiving interesting offers from B-Town. Coming from a theatre background, she aspires to notch her spot in Indian cinema. “There’s so much more to achieve. I am waiting for the right launch into Bollywood.”

Ten years ago Hossam Ramzy had an idea…
Throughout his illustrious career Hossam has had the honour of working with some of the most talented and creative musicians in the world. The idea of making an album with some of those artists is one that has flourished over the last decade.
Rock the Tabla is the realisation of that idea. An exploration in music with some of the artists he has come to love and be inspired by, including Billy Cobham, A.R. Rahman, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Manu Katché, Joji Hirota, Phil Thornton, Chaz Kkoshi, John Themis, Jimmy Waldo…
“These are people I really have the highest of musical, and human, respect for. You can expect music that is born out of love and respect for these artists and music that really just moves me personally. This is why it has taken 10 years. Perfection takes time.– Hossam Ramzy
Rock the Tabla is a highly creative fusion of styles with a vast and multifaceted layer of depth and colour. All of course with that inevitable swing you would expect from Egypt’s Ambassador of Rhythm.
