After a long, long time, ‘Puratchi Tamizhan’ Sathyaraj, who started off his career in Kollywood as a villain, gets to play the role of a don in ‘Pettai Mudhal Kottai Varai’. He had played the villain in ‘Adidhadi’, released a few years ago.
In ‘Pettai…’, the don played by Sathyaraj manipulates the clashes between two dons to his advantage. Saravanan, who got a new lease of life with Amir’s ‘Paruthiveeran’, and Nasser play the other two dons in the film. Newcomers Varshinni and Hema Kailash pair up against the veteran actor.
Ilavarasu, R. Sundarrajan, Nambirajan and Muthukumar play important roles in the film. ‘Thenisaithendral’ Deva scores the music and Ashok Rajan cranks the camera.
Jameen Raj, who directed Mansoor Ali Khan’s ‘Ennai Paar, Yogam Varum’, writes the story, dialogues, screenplay and directs the film.

Funny enough, the movie would have worked if it came out seven or eight years ago. As for Gounder, he may not have much fang here, but he sure has the claws. The old nastiness creeps in once in a while, but there are no real good opponents to insult. Insulting politicians is so common, so nothing new here.
There is an interesting scene towards end of the film, when SR is arrested. They arrest Gounder too but he makes a big ruckus out of it. SR will turn and soberly tells, “kamedy pannura neeramaa ithu?”. Immediately Gounder becomes serious and walk by himself instead of being dragged by cops. Interesting moment.
In the fag end of his career, sathyaraj started taking some really good roles.. Onbadhu rooba nottu, his acting is too good.. ..
