Lisa or My dear Lisa?
Yes!!!!!
Lisa it is! Thanks, Surya!
I think it starred Nizhalgal Ravi and Bhavani??
Lisa was an old movie with Seema - B&W? (KalyanaRaaman had a scene where Raaman getting scared seeing this movie, comes out and 'meets' Kalynam)
My Dear Lisa had NizhalgaL Ravi.
Surya -
The latter...My dear Lisa, for sure.
Naaz, "Nitham Nitham" is from Kootupuzhukkal.
Most of these old songs also happen to be the ones that are hard to find. I have given a pointer here to a thread started by Udhaya long time back for collecting and sharing some of these songs. If some of you are interested, maybe we can find a place (like Directconnect hub) to share some of the songs that we have wanted for long
http://www.tfmpage.com/forum/27125.14.24.31.html
To start with, does anyone here have "Kaadhalennum kovil" from Kazhugu or "Then sumandha mullai dhaana" from Kairaasikaaran?
my dear liza had some nice song
1)"Thoddamal mallarum

Surya, Vijay,
The first time I listened to the song "Niththam en kannodu inba kana.." I was just hooked on to it forever. That song used to be avialable on dhool but now the link there doesnt work. Miss it very much. I had the habit of hearing that song and "Uravenum pudhiya vaanil.." from nenjaththai killaadhe every day.
Talking about "neelakuyile unnodu naan .." a beautiful melody, superbly sung by SPB based on the raagam malayamaarudham brings another song based onthe same raaga "amudhe thamizhe azhagiya mozhiye enadhuyire" from kovil pura.
I like the lines "oon mezhugai urugum karaiyum adhil ulagam marandhu pOgum" from that song.
Has anyone already have any memories of the song "ullamellaam thalladudhe unnidathil ethedho ennangal .." from the movie Dhoorathuh idi muzhakkam. I think the MD was Salilda.
BTW did any body get the song that goes something like
"Aaadal paadal ......nalai varuvadhu kalyanam indru ..." which has Suman and Shobha running around each other and stopping at the end of each line.
The song from sirai based on the beautiful raagam sahana "Naan paadikondE irruppen un pakka thunai irruppEn"..
Another Chandrabose song that was also featured in the SOTD list "Maam poove ilam mainave indha raasathi roja chedi....". KJY and PS.
Will comaback with more
Another hip song that came to my mind is the song
"Nanadhavanathil vandha mayile
endhan manadhil vandha kuyile
.......
kollaiazhagu ingu kotti kidakka
vaadi paingili anubavi
yendi sivandhadhu poovizhi.."
from the movie "annai oru alayam.."
Another fav. of mine from kazhugu
"Ponnoviyam kanden amma engengum
kondenamma perinmbam ...."
CM: Are you talking about the song from Veetukku Veedu that goes on the line
Kaadhal Kaadhal Kaadhal enbadhu ippodhu
oodal kondu
Surya -
Was it Veettukku Veedu Vasappadi (tel remake of Intinti Ramayanam?" I remember the Aadal Paadal Koodal enbadhu...song from that film.
(Veettukku Veedu had lakshmi/jaishankar/Nirmala/Sasikumar?)
CM, that is the famous SPB solo from Annai Oru Aalayam.
friends!
while reading this, from somewhere, the song 'metti oli katrodu' is being broadcasted. what a song! "vaazhnaal ellam unnodu naan vaazhndhaka vendum" unforgettable lines.

mahabs, good to see u & ur trademark signature after a long time :)
Naaz: You are right! I meant VVV and not VV and I remember the song this way. But, as always, you may be right.
Surya -
I appreciate your generosity. But if you count the number of times I've botched the data you'd be right to think otherwise :-)
One main reason I like this thread: It keeps my memory on stilts. Even if I fall, it doesn't stop me.
Today's loop will emerge in a bit...
Looping...

(masterful wordplay and a breathtaking composition in Sriranjani? Manmadha Leelai MSV - VJ)
Manmada leelai - Women folks still trip up on the SPB's nonchalant hum 'la...lalala la..aha ........' in the line 'ethanai kinnathil ittaalum
madu athanaiyum suvai onraagum'- song 'manmadha leelai
mayakkudu aalai'
'Hello my dear wrong number'- a soft sensual duet by KJY/LRE in Dharmavathy raagam.
One of the few songs where LRE and KJY sing with the required huskiness
Veetukku veedu Vasapadi is the Film where suman & shoba sings that song mentioned by Surya
this film had Vijayakumar,Rathi,Suman, shoba in lead

M4Ever: Vizhiyil un vizhiyil is from Ram Laxman
My reminiscences today features TMS(surprise!!!!), not the oldies but during the late 70's 80's when he was completely eclipsed by SPB.
1.This song evokes nostalgic humour with a hippie "ishtyle" Sivaji prancing around a barrel(no prizes for guessing who it is....K R Vijaya!!!) wearing green pants(bells or rather bell bottoms)and red flowered shirt with a loud blue tie( apologies for the apparent exaggeration). Now here goes the song:
Hello My dear Doctor
What is the matter
Sugamillai Doctor
nalla puriyidhu matter.....
( Bell bottom pants or rather bells as it was called, was the rage then along with "step cut". Kamal (kaadal mannan)the reigning star sported it and anyone in school who didnt have that was considered inferior. It was quite a sum of money to paid to the barber for that about Rs.7,if I remmebr right.Returning back to bells....it used be 35cms bottom measurement and literally if one wears it it will swipe the trail clean....:-)
2.The second one is based on ragam Vasanthi :
Nallavarkellam Sakshigal rendu
Onru mansakshi
Onru deivathin sakshi amma
3.This one( nostalgic humour once again for me) is from Pilot Premnath( do correct me if I am wrong) and I distinctly remember for its publicity on Ceylon radio...for it was a joint India-Ceylon production staaring Sivaji, Gamini Fonseca and others:
Who is the black sheep
Adu yaar yaar yaar
4) This one is from Kavari Maan *ing yet again Sivaji. I remember the story line of an unfaithful wife being killed by her husband.......This film also featured a classical piece Tyagaraja's composition (Brovabharama in Bahudaari) sung well by KJY.
Endan Pon vanname
Anbu Poo vanname
Nenjil Porattama
Kannil Neerottama
Adai Naan Parkava
Manam thaan thaanguma (Endan)
4) The final one:
Sindhu Nadi karai Oram
Andhi neram
Endan Devi Aadinaal
Tamizh geetham paadinaal
Oru Poovai pola XXXXX (Sindhu)
More latter but before that a parting comment.....during that time if I had sung/hummed these songs I would have been given a sound thrashing by my mates!!!!!!
Udhadugalil Unadhu peyar is From Thanga Rangam *'ng viajayakumar & Pramila the song is by PS & PJ
ponnula ponnula by SPB is from Chittukuruvi
Raj, that song from kavarimaan is
'Poo pole un punnagaiyil' , sung by SPB for Shivaji after there was some ladaai between TMS-IR. Just curious to know why your mates would have thrashed u.
Raj: Yes, the trend was moving inexorably toward songs sung by SPB and music composed by IR who, IIRC, did not favor TMS that much. The popularity of TMS was on the wane to some extent, just like IR himself (although he is a legend like TMS) is suffering from a partial decline since ARR's entry (change in peoples' musical tastes and all that, I guess).
Mythila, the song in oorukku uzhappavan is a fabulous one, in my opinion. I guess people got tired of hearing TMS songs and wanted a change. The fashion then was to listen to more "modern looking" songs, which SPB did better than TMS, arguably.
raj, I guessed that the uadugalil song was from Thanga Rangan (another song which goes enga rangan thanga rangan is also in that movie I think) :-)
yes thanga rangan
typo error
Which movie is the song
Oaraayiram thiruvaasagam
unnodu naan pEsuvEn
.....
sugamaaga uravaaduvEn
I believe sang it to MSV's music direction.
Dangerous thread, after reading posts here, I had a lengthyyyyyyy dream of me back in my schooldays but now carefully listening to the songs while getting ready...I ended up coming late to office, hahahaha!
Anyway, just for a short while, I became 20 years younger :-))
M4Ever/Prabhu/Mythila: Thanks for the inputs.
Today's "down the memory lane" features some "soga" SPB songs from that era.
I have always cherished SPB's vivacious songs such as
Aval Oru pacchai kuzhandai padum paravai, paduthaal purandaal etc and the songs below
which I remember now wasnt therefore facied much by me. Anyways here I go........
1.
Uchi vaguntheduthu pichi poo vecha kili
pacha mala pakkathula meyudunu sonnanga
meyudinu sonnadila nyayamenna kannaatha...
I think this song is from Rosapoo ravikkaikari or panchakalyani
Knowledgable please confirm.
2.
Boomadevi pole vazhum
jeevan needanae
aaram arivai ezham manidan
XXXXXX marandaane
3.
Naa onna nenaichaen
Nee enna nenaichay
Onnala sondham rendachu
Namma yaru piricha
Oru kodu kizhicha
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This is think is from Kannil Theriyum Kadaigal which also featured another nice
song by SPB,SJ and Vani jayaram
Naan Oru ponnoviyam kandaen edirae
Ilamai inimai idu pudumai
bodai tharum naadaswaram
paadidum senthen mazhai undan mozhiyo
parvaiyil aayiram
kavidhaigal ezhudidum abhinayam (Naan)
More latter..
Raj, those utterly boring numbers (IMO) were from the following film :
1. from RosaapooRavikkaikaari (But there are other lovely songs like Ennullil yengo, maaman orunaal from the same movie)MD: IR
2. Booma devi pola from PanchaKalyaani MD : SG???
3.Naan unna nenachen (MD: SG), Naan oru ponnoviyam- (a very poorly executed (in all aspects) great song- MD: IR frm Kannil theriyum kadaigal.
Nann unna nenachen had SPB, Jikki and VJ.
Naan oru pon oviyam is an Excellent rather a Master piece by IR with Legends like PS,SJ & SPB
song picturization will not be that good
but to listen IMo it's brilliant..
'Naan Oru Ponnoviyam'? I love that song! Love it love it love it!
Today's recollection were around JC!!!

Raj:
TMS in the 70-80s was fun to listen to. Infact the "nallavarkellam saatchigal rendu.." song was a good song and to the contrary Sivaji made a subdeued performance on the screen while TMS was at his overreaction best. Specifically lines like "paravaigalE badhil sollungal...".
Somehow I found listening to TMSs songs when he had gone nasal fun. Another song is from Naan Vaazhavaippen, "Endhan pon vanname anbu poovanamme".
Who can forget the oliyum oliyum fav. "Neramidhu Neramidhu nenjil oru paatezhudha..." to see the two obese actors (Sivaji and KRV) was just a laugh riot.
There are many more like "Kankanda dheivame ...." from Keezhvaanam sivakkum.
Finally TR-TMS classic "Naan oru raasiyilla raaaja ...." wow what a song.
I concur with you with those days of bell bottoms, when I finally managed to get my parents to get me one they went out of date and I made a very sorry figure. Cant forget those days.
Iam not sure if many would share this feeling, born and brought up in Mylapore one could never escape those songs. I still have a very good collection of TMS Murugan songs and LREs maariamman songs. I listen to them once in a while and it gets me back to those school days in Mylapore, Bazaar Road.
These days we dont have that many koil vizhaas, we used to have a big cinema paattu katcheri every year on Vinayaka chathurthi day and what fun it was. Infact the reason I like more of those 70s-80s songs are because of those katcheris.
Purv, u go ahead and love it. It is definitely a fabulous composition in Mohanam. But look at the flaws in execution. This is one area where MDs like ARR, VS score over IR IMO. 1. Sound engineering at its worst 2. Both SPB's and PS's voices fall flat at higher notes. 2. The flute piece in one of its interludes is not rendered well(some flat notes creep in). IR should take all the mis credit for this .
