a) a new Desktop or laptop
b) Data Storage gadget - call it a pen drive, external drive whatever
Requirements
1) Desktop used primarily for browsing(mostly text based browsing, a little bit of youtubes linked from hub primarily)
2) Used also for listening to music and collecting and archiving rare music
3) Skype/Video chat occasionally
4) EA Sports Cricket 2002 occasionally

3) Easy to plug in and transfer data across machines

Plum, If its Desktop, you want Intel or AMD? If Intel, u want i3 or i5 or i7? In any one choise of 13/15/17 u want 1st or 2nd or 3rd Gen? How much RAM u need? 2GB / 4GB/ 8GB? If its a Desktop what size moniter u need 19" / 21" 42"? In case of Laptop whats ur screen size 13.3" 14" 15.4" 15.6" wide screen? How mush Storage you need 500GB/750GB/1TB? And you want Wireless Keyboard or normal one? Same about Mouse. Since u use Skpye, u want to buy a Webcam. If u buy Desktop, you want the old style assembled one or the latest Integrated one which has all the electronics in back side of the Screen? In the later case u need which Brand, HP / HCL / Dell / Lenovo? In case of Laptop what brand you prefer LG/Samsung/HP/Lenovo/HCL/Dell/Acer/Asus/Sony.
Answer these questions, based on ur reply there will be a further deep set of questionnaire.

Don't go for a Desktop anymore, animal soon going to be extinct (if not already)! Buy laptop / netbook.
Cheap USB drives are available that can store 32GB - 64GB etc which should be good for portability.
(Keychain size, so no carrying problem - that 1 TB portable harddrive is a good suggestion but it won't be that tiny).
