I think what he meant was controversy as to why KANNADASAN compared HIMSELF with valluvan ilango bharathi nothing to do with kamban being equated to others :?

madhu :yes: but kavala padaadhinga, adhu oru periya varisai 8-)

the criticism was, by having the line "andha varisaiyil ullavar mattumalla, ada naanum emaarndhen", kannadasan is trying to project himself as the heirloom to those greats.. and this was mooted by some of his regular detractors.. if we are searching for some logic, then there is no logic :)
however by the disclaimer "enakkandha thiranum illai", kannadasan just answered them.. again he didnt state this in any interview, it is just for us to understand from subsequent song when he again used kamban name :)
