thamiz, of course I don't deny he was cheating the public by donning காவி and projecting himself as a முற்றும் துறந்த மாமுனி.
My questions was why we value asceticism so much.
He would have drawn lesser crowd/respect if he had been a regular சம்சாரி sharing his 'wisdom'.Whether someone finds his teaching inspiring/useful etc. should not be highly dependent on these things.
As long as we continue to value this, there will be a new 'ascetic' who will come and make us jaw-drop and then disappoint us by being a regular guy.
Then we will burn effigies, picket ashramam etc.
Rioting Hindu Munnani fellows have asked for
1) fatwa to be issued on Nithyananda (by whom ?!)
2) his assets to be seized !
I find such reactions very funny, particularly 2.
If people paid money to come to his lectures, mass meditation sessions and got nothing (i.e. not as much enlightenment as expected etc.) they should perhaps have asked for the money back even if he was really an ascetic !
Even as we speak today there are non-ascetic running meditation techniques (car வாங்கணும்னா அதை ஓட்டுற மாதிரி நினைச்சிகிட்டு அதன் மேல உங்க மனஒளியை(!) செலுத்துங்க etc.). People travel far and wide and pay good money to attend these programs. Whatever works.
