TMK, in other sports, if a sportsperson is found using drugs he / she will be banned for life or at least for 5-10 years.
Without coming across as defending Warne, I will say this is related to the seriousness of the offence. In track and field for instance performance can be seriously enhanced by the drugs. The extent to which this is possible in cricket is questionable. However,
rules are rules, and Warne was rightly punished.

Eh ? where was it used to prolong Warne's career. He was out of the game for a year. They did not 'extend' his career. They just 'did not cut it short'.
