Distribution: Vendhar Movies
Thalaivaa is one of the year’s most anticipated films starring Vijay and Amala Paul and directed by director Vijay. The film has G.V.Prakash continuing his partnership with director Vijay yet again and the album has 6 songs all written by Na. Muthukumar.
Tamil Pasanga
Singers: Benny Dayal, Psycho Unit, Sheezay
Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar
Psycho Unit’s intro Tamil rap sets the tone of the song and is guaranteed to raise the hairs of Vijay fans. The track features inventive processed beats that builds a groove which allows room for Vijay to show off his dance moves. Pyshco Unit’s second appearance is as impressive as his first, followed by a nice synth hook by GV. The vocal melody is easy to follow and makes a quick impression. Benny Dayal’s vocals are processed to an extent to suit the song’s theme and he does deliver an energetic performance. The lyrics are sure to strike a chord with the fans.
Yaar Indha Saalaioramhttp://behindwoods.com/images/thumbs-up.jpg
Singers: G.V. Prakash Kumar, Saindhavi
Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar
G.V comes up with yet another ‘family duet’ that is as well crafted as the couple’s earlier partnerships in the past, if not better. Maybe G.V is saving the best for himself and Saindhavi, and they don’t disappoint as they do possess a magical chemistry. The orchestration is simply grand especially with the string section being effectively used. A soft song but thoroughly enjoyable because of the sparkling melodic hooks and engaging orchestration.
Vaanganna Vanakkangannahttp://behindwoods.com/images/thumbs-up.jpg
Singers: Santhanam, Vijay
Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar
The highly celebrated 25th ‘bhang-song’ sung by Vijay himself makes for the single most high point of this album. Santhanam too features in this song offering his classic ad-libs but its Vijay who singlehandedly propels this tune to delightfully dizzying heights. Vijay plays both actor and singer at the same time as he emotively slurs his way through hilarious lyrics, more drunken philosophies about love, without missing a note. G.V backs up the singer with infectious percussions and middle-eastern strings but all the roads eventually lead to the singer. Vijay – well done bro!
Sol Sol
Singers: Abhay Jodhpurkar, Megha, Vijay Prakash
Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar
A racy electronic dance number right at the midpoint of the soundtrack to ensure that the built up momentum is sustained. The tune has just about enough to scrape through into this high profile album. The treatment given by G.V helps the song escape being an overly generic western tune, despite the objective being the very same. He throws in some catchy synth hooks just when the track seems to be plateau-ing out. The male singers Vijay Prakash, Abhay Jodhpurkar deliver spirited performances as the track rides mostly on them.
The Ecstacy of Dance
Singers: Chennai Symphony, Instrumental, Kiran
Lyrics:
An instrumental with the flute taking the centre stage initially as the Violins dance in the background setting the groove. The brief tune builds up nicely featuring the melody of ‘Yaar indha Salai’ and knows exactly when to end.
Thalaivaa Thalaivaahttp://behindwoods.com/images/thumbs-up.jpg
Singers: Haricharan, Pooja, Zia Ul Haq
Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar
A bit of Ilaiayaraja’s resonance is evident in the opening notes of the song and during the mid-section. Otherwise the track’s direction and focus remains on setting up a pulsating theme that’s clearly played to the gallery. The male chorus may seem rather simple but it does pack a punch nevertheless. The violins add the necessary drama. The echoing vocals are a clever production touch and ensure that ‘Thalapathy Thalapathy’ is ringing in your ears long after the song is over.
Verdict: A true Thalivaa for the fans, high on energy and drama!

How's songs. Hope GV delivers a hit album for vijay after velayudham.
To me, 'Tamil Pasanga', 'Yaar Intha Salai' and 'Sol Sol' are my picks. Lot's of scope for Stylish dance.
And offcourse can't wait to watch Vijay dance for 'Ecstasy of Dance'.
I'll give it a few more listens before making judgement. Learnt my lesson after Thuppakki. Songs felt better after the first few initial listens.
Waiting for the theatrical trailer though.
In the Lines of Achamillai Achamillai, Arjunaru Villu, Puli Urumudhu....... my fav is Thalaivaa Thalaivaa... Mass !!!
Thalaiva - Gusto IndiaGlitz [Friday, June 21, 2013]6 Comments
Vijay acting as a dancer and as a mass leader, partly based in Mumbai and Australia, GV Prakash dancing with Vijay, Santhanam singing, Vijay's 25th song as a singer - there is a lot of expectations and surprises in the Vijay-Vijay project. Satiating a portion of eagerness, here is an album that is weaved just for the perfect hero. Crafted by GV Prakash and penned to perfection by Na Muthukumar, 'Thalaivaa' is one of classiest albums that the ears have tuned into.
1. Tamil Pasanga
Voices: Benny Dayal, Sheezay, Psycho Unit
Buckle up your shoes and jump on to the dance floor. Rich in energy, enthusiasm and love for motherland, the album gets a real jump start with this song which is undoubtedly the Tamil anthem. Being a Tamillian is pride in itself and Na Muthukumar has chosen the right words to drive the song down your soul, and make you get up and dance. Given that Vijay plays a dancer in the movie, this track completely justifies his role. Racy, lively, sprightly and exhilarating, the song is a complete entertainer. You can just not keep put and not dance to this number.
2. Yaar Indha Saalai Oram
Voices: GV Prakash Kumar, Saindhavi
Just after all the energy in the first track, we have a lilting melodious duet. Though diametrically opposite from the previous track, this one clairvoyantly sets your mood to float in thin air. There may have been songs after songs on love, but nothing will practically match up to this one. And when rendered in the lovely voices of GV Prakash and Saindhavi, it is purely magical. Minimal instruments accompanied by timely beats adds depth to the song. Meanwhile, we believe that the secret behind Vijay's tap dance is seeking to leak out. If one word has to describe the song, then it is beautiful!
3. Vaanganna Vanakkanganna
Voices: Vijay, Santhanam
Releasing prior to the actual release of the album, this song is a surprise package for, not only has Santhanam lent his voice to music for the first time, but also because this is Ilayathalapathy's 25th song! Starting off casually and going on to become peppy, GV Prakash has ensured to make 'soup' song as foot tapping as possible. Yet another highlight of the song is that the composer himself is tapping his feet to this song, along with the graceful dancer, Vijay himself. The catchy song has elements of Arabian music and also typical 'Kuthu' feeling at times, and Vijay has crooned so convincingly inebriated. In all, 'Vaanganna Vanakkanganna' has a good hook about it.
4. The Ecstasy of Dance
Tunes: Kiran, Chennai Symphony
Every time there is an instrumental track from GV Prakash, it is goes on to become the chart topper. This one, we believe, is no exception. Aptly titled, this song is ecstatic, and transcends the listeners into a different world of bliss. The track predominantly uses wind and string instruments in an intelligent composition. This track will certainly prove to be the translation of the enchantment of dancing. At the end of two minutes, you'd wish the song is never ending.
5. Sol Sol
Voices: Vijay Prakash, Abhay Jodhpurkar, Megha
We have yet another racy number in the album; 'Sol Sol' is fresh and feels like a track tailored for dance. Creative usage of hip-hop elements and the right choice of voices tips the overall energy that the song offers. Choice of words is highly complementary to the mood set by music. Despite all the beats and energy packed into the song, the track still offers to be breezy and charming. With this, there is an incomparable contribution to dance floor, from GV Prakash.
6. Thalaivaa Thalaivaa
Voices: Haricharan, Pooja, Zia Ulhaq
Opening majestically, the track is a true tribute to a leader. After many years, we have a song that is purely in salutation of a forerunner. Inspirational and coercive in every note, the song has an imposing aura about it. A song that is all praise for a chieftain coincidentally sounds crafted for our dear Ilayathalapathy. Moving, dynamic, awakening and arousing, 'Thalaivaa Thalaivaa' is a humble and prestigious bow to the luminary.
Thalaivaa is all about energy and jive. Ranging from foot tapping to soul lifting, the album is elevating in all respects. For a crowd puller like Vijay, this album is aptly scored to be cheery and soulful. In all, GV Prakash has redefined music crafted for dance.
Rating: 3.75 / 5 - Energy packed
Verdict: Get up and dance

Thalaivaa Music Review
First before I start of this review I have to say this is definitely the most ultra modern album of Vijay to date. If you are expecting a normal Vijay album you can forget it because this is a totally refreshing experience and proves that Vijay is ready to experiment with his music. The album caters to the new generation and is a extremely stylish one. The hype and hoola surrounding the music has not gone in vain as the hardwork can clearly be seen from the Thalaivaa Team in the music.
Tamil Pasanga - This is my pick of the album as it is a totally refreshing experience. The Background Music and Beats are Ultra Modern and GV Prakash totally gives us a surprise. For a man who is known to give only slow romantic melodies this is one heck of a roller coaster ride. Infact it is probably it is one of the fastest ongs I have heard. The beat is so fast and is complimented by a stylish ultra cool melody. Benny Dayal's voice is soothing and the Rap Stars Sheezay and Psycho Unit have done their portions really well too. The song is one that take on many international hip hop songs as a lot of effort has been put into the song and the final result is just outstanding. The audiences can expect one of the best dances ever from this song it is evident from the beat itself. Overall a real blazing fast song that comes as a wonderful surprise package for the music lovers.
Sol Sol - This is another surprise for a Vijay Album has its a really breezy stylish song with the cool voice of Vijay Prakash and Megha. The background music is slick in the song and Jodhpurkar adds the flavour to the song with the repetitive lines "Sol sol sol anbe nee sol Nil nil nil pogathey nil Sol sol sol sollaamal sol Solvatheylam kannaley sol". Megha is a singer who needs to be more utilized in Tamil Cinema as she has a really beautiful voice. There are also wonderful instruments that are used in the song which are very soothing for the ears.
Yaar Indha Saalai Oram - This follows the style of a typical GV Prakash duet in which both GV Prakash and his wife Saindhavi have done a really nice job. Though it is a soft melody it does have its slightly fast moments and is not too slow. The background music and beats sound very nice and have been used accurately when required. The lyrics in the song have been written well and overall its a sweet beautiful melody for all.
Vangana Vanakangana - This song is probably the most expected song in the album as the lead Star Vijay has sung it. The leaked version was extremely popular and many had praised Vijay's ability to sing versatile songs. The overall song isn't too different from the leaked version but does have minor changes and ofcourse the Background Music and Instruments appear to be more clear since it is the official song. Overall one can assume this song is the scene where Vijay is expressing his feelings on relationships after breaking up with Amala Paul. The song has a typical folk style to it and Vijay has done a pretty good job singing a song that is more fun than sad. The song can be expected to be even better on screens with the presence of Vijay as this is a song that has room for some expressions. Overall a fun song to listen to.
Thalapathy Thalapathy - This is the song that didn't click with me much but it does have its moments for example when the singer chants "Thalapathy Thalapthy Engal Thalapathy Thalapathy" and the Powerful Background Music. But overall it can be clearly seen that GVP was attempting a Big 90s type of Mass song but compared to the rest of the album it is a little out of place as the rest of the album is really modern. This song may look much better in the movie as the situation of the film might require such a scene. Perhaps on repeated hearing it may sound a lot better but it may still appeal to the die hard fans.
Ecstacy Of Dance - The Ecstacy Of Dance has been composed in a really nice fashion with interesting instruments and a powerful Background Music. Overall there is a lot of variety within this composition itself as we can experience many different feelings. Overall a very interesting and experimental approach has been taken by GV Prakash and team.
Verdict: This album is going to definitely click with the Music Lovers as it is a Ultra-Modern Stylish album that will cater to the New Generation. Overall a lot of effort has been put into this album and this is definitely one of the best albums of GV Prakash, Director Vijay and Actor Vijay. So Go Ahead and Have a Musical Feast With Thalaivaa :)
Rating : 4/5
