dindigul sarathy and thenavattu hit..vettaikaran average..
Uday, look at the budget brother.. Both Thennavattu and D.Sarathy are of '' C '' category but Vettai is A+ category... Where is C and where is A+ :P Vettai did good business but the prob was that It had done collections that an average star's movie would do.. Not a Super Star's movie collection... Hope you get it :P

I don't know much about Unnai Ninaithu.. Let it be average... But, Nanda and other films were hit... They were touted as surprise hits which were unexpected... Ok, let us keep other films said by you as average.. Coming to Vel, the story wasn't well received by the multiplexes... But, at rural centers the collections were high... Vadivel's comedy, Surya's performance, Yuvan's songs plus the entire sentimental concept was very well received... Many sites gave first preference to Vel as the winner in Diwali 2007 race :P
vinod nanda is surya come back movie he is very appreciated but film not doing wellQuote:

~ TOP OPENINGS OF PROMINENT MOVIES OF 2009 IN CHENNAI ~
I'm summarising the opening weekend collections of prominent films released in 2009 in Chennai city alone, from the stats got from Behindwoods.
Ex: Read as Kanthasamy gathered 93,02,759 INR in first 3 days from its release (i.e) Fri, Sat, Sun. Coloured movies have stats for more or less days as indicated by the side of the movie :P
1) Kanthasamy - 93,02,759
2) Vettaikaran - 89,08,491
3) Padikkadhavan - 76,00,000 (First 5 days collection because site didn't have any stats for first 3 days collection)
4) Ayan - 67,81,107
5) Thoranai - 55,49,695
6) Naan Kadavul - 55,03,131
7) Aadhavan - 54,12,042 (First 2 days collection and the site had missed out the 3rd day)
8) UPO - 52,98,934
9) Arundhati - 44,01,036
10) Sarvam - 39,41,181
11) Pokkisham - 38,45,792
12) Ninaithale Innikum - 30,64,315
13) Maasilamani - 30,61,132
14) Kandaen Kadhalai - 24,32,932
15) Peraanmai - 20,48,285
~ There are other movies that didn't receive much grand opening but went on to become superhits like Nadodigal, Yaavarum Nalam... They have been omitted.
~ Major dissapointment : Site didn't collect stats for the opening of Villu :hammer: It got a huge opening...

Hollywood Films Take a Rise in CBO
Wednesday August 11, 2010
In the past 10 months, it’s been the realms of Hollywood movies in Chennai Box office. Starting with Roland Emerich’s ‘2012’ followed by James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’, there has been continuous downpour of Hollywood releases.
It is worth mentioning that Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’ witnessed house-packed shows for three continuous weeks and is still rocking at box office. Angelina Jolie’s ‘Salt’ wasn’t an exception and ‘A-TEAM’ was yet another showpiece drawing repeated viewing.
‘The Twilight Saga – New Moon’ has been doing well amongst the elite audiences. For sure, this weekend is gonna be no more an exception as three Hollywood films are set to open at bigger levels.
The first one to hit headlines is Sylvester Stallone starrer ‘The Expendables’. The film is written and directed by Sylvester Stallone and is produced by Lion Gate Films. Touted to be an action-packed thriller adventure, the film brings together the most happening superstars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Steve Austin and so on.
Couple of comedy entertainers ‘Grown-Ups’ and ‘Dinners for Schmucks’ (this film is a remake of French Movie ‘Dinner Party Game’, which won global appreciations.
