We had an interesting discussion about "Poonthendral kaatre" some time back. The haunting nature of the song is due to the fact that the heroine is a ghost in the movie. Suresh was the hero. Any supernatural element in the script makes Raaja go bonkers.
Subbudu once mentioned about Rahman - thALaththai adippadaiyAga vaithu pAttamaikkirAr. Here is one from IR like that. A rhythm based composition.. see it continue throughout the song like a loop by a current day MD.

This is one of my favorites .. I dont know why I did not switch my allegiance to Rahman :-)
(Another exercise - watch out for songs with "malai"/"kurinji" in their lyrics and the rhythms - most always some tribal beats)
Jai - Thanks for Thangaliyalli from Janma Janma Da Anubandha. A stunner to say the least. It's going on in the loop since last night and I will take my own time to come out of it. What a rendition by SJ.. no words would be enough to praise the mind boggling music churned out in this song.
I'm a big fan of IR's spooky/ghost songs genre. This man has shown unparalleled genius and creativity in the orchestration for spooky songs. A few of my favs:
Devathai Ilam Devi, Uruguthe Idhayame, Vetta Veli, Koodu Thedi etc. Thangaliyalli would be in the top of my list now.
Just revisited the song from Avatharam now in youtube and happy to see the long array of comments for this particular song.

One of those reviewers had put a very interesting comment on this song:
"If this song can be transformed into a drug then it will be banned around the world for being most addictive substance. This is the reason why i don't want to listen to this song because it makes me go high and returning to normalcy becomes a big deal even after a week".....Good one..

Finally a picturisation of Raaja melody which is worth watching..
And now I know why the popular rhyme was alluded to in the song. True Narrative integrity is the first and foremost point that Raaja cares about..
Yes, I too was surprised initially when I was just hearing the song, but it anyway sits beautifully in the song. Only recently I discovered from this video, that Sathyan sir would have narrated this situation to Raja and it perfectly fell in place as narrated. I also read and heard that many didn't like that last piece, as it was childish, but they all would have failed to understand this beautiful concept, just by hearing.
Thanks Jai for the beautiful song 'Aaro Hai Paadunnu Dhoore'..I remember Vicky writing about this song in his blog..that was the first time i heard the song and instantly fell in love with it.http://raagadevan.blogspot.com/2010/...irst-love.html
This is the first time im watching the video and have fallen in love again..[:)]
