I guess Jazz purist may not classify any of Illayaraja's songs are jazz since he defines the whole structure of the song and there is not much room for improvisation by either the singer or the instrumentalist. Hence they would prefer to call it a song with 'jazz feel'. I remember reading Guitar Prasanna saying something on these lines when he reviewed the music of 'Mumbai Express'.
As Sureshs65 said, "appappaa" is indeed a brass beauty. Add SPB's effervescent flamboyance, frenzied paced rythm, great opening guitar to make this song the best in the otherwise forgettable movie
