‘Thalaivaa’ is one of most anticipated movies of the year and with the delay in release the expectations are shooting up further.Though the film didn’t release in Tamil Nadu , we provided you the first on net review from Dubai. Now here is our official review of Vijay’s Thalaivaa….
Thalaivaa starts with Sathyaraj’s transformation from normal guy to ‘Anna’ and ends with Vijay’s transformation from Vishwa to Thalaivaa. Every hero wants to act in a God Father kind of film and now its Vijay’s turn in Thalaivaa. AL Vijay who is known for his classic films like Deiva Thirumagal and Madarasipattnam has maintained the class moments in most of the scenes in Thalaivaa. Though the movie reminds you Nayagan,Thevar Magan’s essence , director Vijay brought out the flavor as it is and we can feel the same magic again. (Some scenes in Nayagan and ThevarMagan were inspired from God Father).
Thalaivaa’s biggest strength is the casting. Yes, especially Vijay and Sathyaraj steals the show with their eminent screen presence. The combination scenes between the duo are the epic moments in the film.Sathyaraj as young ‘Anna’ and the aged don looks fabulous; his subtle and sharp dialogue deliveries are sheer class. Though Sathyaraj’s screen presence is limited, it is one ofhis memorable performances of this decade.
Similarly Vijay has come up with a million dollar performance; be it the energetic dancer, or the confused Vishwa in Mumbai or the subtle Thalaivaa he steals the show. The reaction of Vijay in the pre interval scene where Sathyaraj was trapped is fabulous and shows the potential actor inside Vijay.
Another major strength of the movie is Amala Paul, she looks so cute and her chemistry with Vijay is fantabulous. AL Vijay has given her a strong character and she fits it to the T, the dance portions with Vijay is something to be remembered for a long time. Santhanam’s comedy one liners are enjoyable and it helps the movie to move at a rapid pace in the first half. Ponvannan has a solid role and the other characters like Nasser,Suresh were adequate.
On the technical side Nirav Shah’s cinematography is at its best. He used two different color tones in the movie to differentiate Mumbai and Australian portions. The way Nirav’s angle on the characterization also makes the movie to appear better. GV Prakash’s songs are good and background score is okay.
The above all are the major advantages of Thalaivaa. Coming to the minus points , it’s the screenplay and pace in second half which tests the patience of us. Though AL Vijay should be appreciated for the first half of the movie, terrific twist at the interval block and the video tape sequences in the second half he also should be blamed for the lengthy second half.
Santhanam’s portions, the riot portions in Mumbai and another twenty minutes in the second half makes us to lose interest. AL Vijay should have followed wither class route or the mass route, the commercial compromises like including Santhanam’s comedy in the second half and incorporating a exaggerated ‘Thalapathy Thalapathy’ song looks dull. Abhimanyu’s characterization is dull that Vijay – Villain clash doesn’t evoke much interest .Event the climax looks so ordinary and the end look of Vijay is class.
Overall Thalaivaa has a breezy first half , classy acting by lead actors , some epic twists on one end and the dragging second half on the other end.
Verdict : A lengthy God Father Saga

Vijay fans curb Thalaivaa DVD sellers

Amidst the tension being created because of the delay in the release of Thalaivaa, there has been sale of pirated DVDs of the movie which adds to the pressure.
On this account, Vijay had expressed his gratitude to his fans and the policemen in the Salem district, who managed to curb a set of people who were selling pirated DVDs of the movie.
“Creating and selling private DVDs is against the law. I request my fans to let the police know, in case they come across such happenings.
Our Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha has been ruling the government efficiently. She has brought in various good plans for the healthy running of the state. I like the way she has been managing the affairs of the state. She will soon intervene in the release of Thalaivaa as well and bring us an appropriate resolution to this. I request my dear fans to be patient till then.”

Saw it in Trivandrum with my friend and her kids. The kids classmates were also in attendance, malayalam and tamil. The kids had a great time and loved the movie. Even my friend, not really a Vijay fan enjoyed the movie.
