Neel, a joy! It is news to me, need to learn more about earliest Indian film music. Apte and Rao had looks Hollywood! admirable dedication of apteji! God Bless you, Sir
natha1729, thank you. Isn't it nice to know that the concept of "training for a role" once existed in TF. I think it has made a comeback thanks to some of the new directors who demand the absolute best out of their actors.

We will round off the week with two more songs from Savithiri. I feel that Shanta Apte's dedication to her profession and Y.V.Rao's contribution to Tamil films deserve an extended appreciation.
"vAnOnggiya" is another nice lovely duet by M.Rajagopala Sharma and Shanta Apte. This is when Sathyavan and Savithiri are living in the forest. The song is mainly about the beauty of nature.
The solo "athO thEvi" is when Yama takes Sathyavan's life. Savithiri travels to Yamalokam (during the long interlude), knocks on Yama's door and fights to get her husband's life back.
Thanks again Neel ! Two(four) in a row. These two remind me of some songs from later years!
Neel, i really liked the melody and the sound of the times, priceless. hope you can find some more of the great composers. hollywood music started in the early 20s itself really out of this world melodies, would like to see how older indian melodies were
Neel,
I had never known that Shanta Apte had sung Tamil songs. Thanks a lot for sharing this information and her two songs!
rajraj, you are welcome.
natha1729, I sure will try to find and feature more old melodies.
Four songs AV! :)
Pick #757
Song: thAmarai kannanggaL
Film: Ethir Neechal
Music: V.Kumar
Singers: P.Susheela, P.B.Srinivas
Lyrics: Vaali
Year: 1968
Today's pick is a tribute to Nagesh. Ehtir Neechal directed by K.Balachandar starred Nagesh in the lead.
Nagesh was a consummate comedian. The modualtion and timing of his dialog delivery, the perfectly timed and funny body movements, and facial expressions... he never acted, his whole being transformed into the character he played. He was just as good in character roles. Such a gift to Tamil films he was. Thank you Nagesh Sir! You are leaving this earth happier than you found it.
