True cricket has gained the popularity it has got now due to its simplicity. There aren't many complicated rules. It can be played even with 2 players . Stones can be made use of in the place of stumps and space requirement is also less . Doesn't require any costly equipment too . Wooden logs can serve as bats and plastic papers can be crumpled and rolled to make a ball .
But cricket is given undue importance than it actually deserves . (Come on its just a sport right . Why the hell should I be interested in knowing what Zaheer Khan does with his girlfriend when there are so many other burning issues rocking the country). Cricket has damaged and has pushed into near extinction other sports in our country. You know when this girl Shanthi won the silver medal there were some rumblings in the media that her physique played a major part in her success. Her parents laid to rest many speculations and said just because they were so poor , they couldn't feed her well and thats why she was so lean. Sad isn't it ? Sabeer Pasha got many offers from Bengal clubs but still he stuck with Indian Bank because of the job security .One of my friends played for a first division club . He was paid a handsome amount every season which was much more than that an average football player got playing for the NFL. There are just no more incentives to play other sports. See whats happening in West Indies . West Indian youth are lured by the many scholarships offered by American universities and cricket lost its gloss. Same thing is happening in India to other sports. Cricket is only producing lot of lazy youth who waste their time mulling over trivial statistics .
