A.R.Rahman - Mani Rathnam - Rajeev Menon - GURU

i am not a hater of hj and yuvan all my post on hj would be after 20 days from the album release whenevr a album is out ppl like to see the initial review of it .. as u know a rahman album grows on u after each listening.. so whts the need in finding faults at the initial stage ... rahman once in a while recycles loops but give it a complete different feel
where hj and yuvan are almost repetitive in all their albums ... soo my point was reviews should make others listen not develop the hatred first... enna thambi dinesh ohk va

go to this page and listen to "Nuthin without you -Tery Bina" and tell me if u feel our man's tere bina is similar to it or not.......i felt the arrangements/style/general sound of the song is same but tune is our master's........i'm releived a bit.... 8-)

MADDY, ARR is a fan of Nusrat since long time and his songs had distinct influence of fateh ali kahn right from the beginning. Even Rahman's singing style is similar to NFAK. I remember reading somewher that this song is a tribute to him. So no surprises 8-) .

Same here too :D . I couldn't sit in my college. I was constantly humming this song. Very addictive one.

Mind u i liked even Ek Lo Ek Muft song.

thamizh i wanted to find it out myself how much they are similar........i dont think the tunes are similar......for me, copying the tune is worst thing to do.....i'm really happy that ARR hasnt done that here.......someone here claimed that ARR has copied Nursat shamelessly.....i was really stung and hurt with that remark..... :D

BTW, Guru's track is getting some mixed reviews in the media, with some coming down heavily on ARR on his Baazi Laga song. Has it been released in the Indian music stores yet? Or is it all from MP3 listenings?

WOW these songs are really awesome. I was waiting for these kinda songs for a LONG time i mean a LONG time. Ill bet my life that this soundtrack will become an ultimate blockbuster. I only didnt like two songs on first hearing ek lo ek muft and baazi laaga. Now I am liking ek lo ek muft and almost liking baazi laaga. First hearing on baazi laaga I thought i played wrong song because it didnt seem like a Rahman song. But later while I was sleeping when i heard it on mp3 without bass I clearly heard all the complicated treble sounds. good stuff. GO BUY THE ALBUM GUYS.

"Ey Hairathe" is for sure the best! Alka Yanik did well with her recent "Saalam" (UJ) and once again with Hariharan she did a superbe job! :clap:

As expected "Tera Bina" kouda nala iruku, thanks to ARR's voice.

I thought "Barso Re" would be better, aarambam nala iruku, but pirahu konjam slow-aa pohuthu... ilaya?

"Mayya mayya"'s begining reminds me "nerupey chikimuki nerupey" from VV... It seems to be an item number but I think this is not the one with Mallika, look at this pic!

It would fit more for "Baazi laga". by the way, intha song konjam kouda pidikala, it just don't sound like a Rahman's one! I won't blame him for that, cuz Mani probably want him to compose such a song to match the periode film!

"Jaage hain" is nice, it reminds me the song "Aazadi" from Bose- the forgotten hero, or an old patriotic song...., ARR's voice add so much emotions! :)


But as Vairamuthu said, "kavithaihalin suvai artham puriyum varai"! lol So let's hope we'll get Guru in tamil. As the name Guru is already used by an old Kamal film, we sould name Guru as "Thalaivan"...?

Hey arsaregama i have a sound blaster too and my 5.1 works for DVDs etc but which software do u use to produce 5.1 with stereo?

ARR proves once again that he is the GoD of Music..

But I still think Iruvar was class apart when compared to Guru considering both movies comes under the same league..

In Barso Re song - thus musical bit that comes at 1:58 is just absolute heaven! Awesome - I just cant get my ears out of it..ARR is GOD!

guys.... Guru is overall a BOMBAY + IRUVAR ... wut u say ??? ;) !!! Ay Hairathe is so touching like Pookodiyin - Iruvar & Tera Bina is simply irresistible just like Kannalane - Bombay.... !!!

"Jaage hain", "Ay Hayrathe" & "Tere Bina" are nothin short of masterpiece..."Ek Lo.." is not that bad as u ppl claim 2 be....other songs r not bad to hear the 1st time, I'm sure it'll grow on....the lyrics r bit hard to understand, not the typical bolly lyrics I guess.. probably Mani wanted to have a northish flavor in the songs to gel with the movie.

It'll be a big achievement for ARR-Mani if this album is critically acclaimed atleast, if not by the mass, for the fact that these 2 ppl from the south could explore the music of the North successfully,,hope the movie turns out to be good...

The song "Ek Lo.." is running now for the second time..guyz this song is cool ....I'm lovin it..hehe

Man..this "jaage hain" is jus mindblowing...in the lines of "Bombay Theme"... hope this one is picturised effectively...

Tere bina-wonderful melody, nice to hear tablasm from our master again after a long time, Chinmayi voice is magic, dham dhara dham sounded very tamil :wink:

Ay hairathe- simply awesome, pick of the album i'll say. HH-ARR combination never failed. Alka Yagnik voice has a slight resemblence of S.J :wink:

Wish the songs were dubbed in tamil, it'll be good if you understand what their singing :wink:

listening to Bazee laga.......vintage 60's SDBurman style of music........this guy is tooo gud, how can a guy born in Chennai can give such authentic Hindi music??? imagine Anu Malik composing a song like "chittu kuruvi(pudhiya paravai)" or any of the KVM,MSV-TKR songs.......after listening to Guru nobody will tell its composed by a south indian........hats off ARR.....

as of now, my preferences:

1. Tera Bina (i feel its better than Kannalane
2. Ey Hairathe
3. Jaage Hain
4. Bazee Laga

Barso re, Mayya, ek lo ek muft have still not convinced me..... :D

Now I am hooked on to Jaage Hain. This is the style of music ARR has been so famous for. :musicsmile:
