The Artist win was not surprising considering the quality of the movie. IMO definitely best for this year. I could not say the same thing about last year's best picture though.

Only happy moment for me in yesterday's show is Woody Allen winning after a long time :notworthy:, of course the next is meryl streep winning for the third time after 17 nominations. But this time, somehow they could not keep the surprise element throughout. They gave first two oscars to Hugo which gave a clue it is going to win more technical categories. Same with the case with Meryl. When Billy Crystal introduced her, he said she won only two times out of 17 nominations and she is also nominated today, which again gave a big clue that she is going to win. Again, Artist when they started winning main categories, it was very obvious that they are going to win the Best picture also.
I was happy to see ARR on the oscar again.
Even at their stage (Oscars), ARR composing a song and naming it in thamizh (sangamam) truly shows his heart. Shaashtaanga :notworthy: to ARR.
Rango, Seriously? Bad year for Animation films. KFP2 was a better film. At least the kids would've enjoyed that one.
I too was surprised. I didn't watch Rango, but KF2 should have won. I even expected Adventures of Tintin (a movie I love a lot), but it was not even nominated. I believe 'Animation - Motion Capture' films like Polar Express, Christmas Carol, Tintin does not impress the Academy at all, I believe. Tintin was not even a hit unlike the other two films.
It is still a puzzle how Academy picked up Happy Feet for Cars in 2007. Happy Feet was such a horrible film, atleast to me.
