The point here is Velayudham made as much a business as Mankatha. But one is a 'genuine blockbuster and the other is a 'average/flop' venture. Kavalan, for the budget and the low 'pre-business' thanks to Sura was a Super-hit.Quote:

It's very evident from the day of release that some vested interests were just waiting for the release, so that they could start spreading negative rumours about Jilla. After the premier shows and after the morning shows on Friday, few of these self proclaimed reviewers were all over giving biased and negative reviews. It didn't manage to do the damage that was intended is a different matter. Jilla doing well in the 2nd week despite mixed reviews is purely due to Vijay's star power. And yes, Mohanlal's presence obviously did have an impact.
