A word on why would producers claim more profit by lying: suppose you are a producer with 15 cr black money in your hand. Suppose your movie earns actual money of 60 crores. For simplicity, let's assume 33 percent tax. If you announce 60 cr profit, then you pay 20 cr tax. After paying tax, your assets: 40 crore White Money, 15 Crores black money(which you already had). . Total: 55 cr. Now, suppose instead you add the black money to the profit and claim 75 crore revenue: then you pay 25 cr tax. Net Assets after paying tax: 50 crores white. That is 5 crs loss compared to other scenario but the loss is in black money, which you can't account for anyway. You actually gain 10 crs in white. 15 cr illegalA blackla sambAdichavanukku, 10 crores out of that becomes legal white money.Ofcourse, it will not stand scrutiny but then so wouldn't it if they are lying for pride anyway. So, the possibility of a producer claiming inflated profits could be for a very valid reason.
