சிறிய இடைவேளைக்கு பின் thread க்கு வருகை தந்தால் இம்முறை இனிய அதிர்ச்சி. புன்னை மாறன் உங்களுடைய எழுத்து நடை அருமையாக உள்ளது அதை விட 70 , 80 களில் இளம் பிராயத்தில் ராஜாவின் இசையை கேட்டு வளர்ந்தவர்களின் அனுபவங்கள் ஏறக்குறைய ஒன்று போலவே இருந்திருக்கிறது அதை சிறப்பாக வெளிப்படுத்தி உள்ளீர்கள்.
இந்த நான்கு தசாப்தங்களின் ராஜாவின் இசை பற்றிய அறிவார்ந்த அலசல்கள் எவ்வளவு முக்கியமோ அதே போல நமது வாழ்வில் அவரது இசை எந்த அளவு தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளது என்பதும் முக்கியம். இரண்டும் இணையும் போதுதான் இந்த thread முழுமையடைகிறது என்பது என் அபிப்ராயம். முதலில் அவரது இசை நம் மனதைத்தானே பாதித்தது!.
இந்த thread நல்ல திசையில் சென்று கொண்டிருக்கிறது. உஷா மேடம் கவனிக்க :)

அனைவருக்கும் நன்றி. eagle, நமது ராசாவின் இசையை அறிவார்ந்த முறையில் அலச போதுமான இசை அறிவு எனக்குக் கிடையாது. அதனால் தான் அவரது இசை என் மனதில் ஏற்படுத்திய தாக்கத்தையும் என் உணர்வுகளையும் பகிர்ந்து கொள்கிறேன். இங்கு பதிவு செய்த பலர் இதே போல் உணர்ந்திருப்பது கண்டு மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி. Suresh65 சொல்வது போல் இன்றைய இளைஞர்களும் நம் ராசாவின் இசையை நோக்கி ஈர்க்கப்பட்டு வருகிறார்கள். நாம் இங்கே நமது அனுபவங்களைப் பகிர்ந்து கொள்வதன் மூலம் அவர்கள் இதுவரை கேட்டிராத சில பாடல்களையும் அவர்களுக்கு அறிமுகப் படுத்துவதாகவும் இருக்கும்.

That's exactly the feeling I had expressed earlier, that Raja needs to be approached both from musical point of view and emotional point of view. Generally the emotional attachment of song we have heard in our younger days is very high. It takes a lot of effort to reasses the song when your musical sensibilities change. There are many Hindi songs which are close to my heart. Songs like 'Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai'. I still like the song but I would probably not rate it as a great song. (Not that the rating matters but when you are logically assessing music you need to be true to yourself.) When it comes to Raja it so happens that when you re-assess the songs which you loved, you find that they are _better_ musically than what you thought they were !!! Such are his creations.
Punnaimaran is doing a great job, providing us with the emotional experience which resonates with a lot of people here. I am sure as Punnaimaran's musical knowledge grew, his love for those songs grew much more. I can't say that of many of my favorite songs of 70s or 80s. I had to drop many on the wayside.

Yes, Suresh65, the love for those songs has grown ever since. Now when I hear them in a good sound system, I enjoy them even more.

I wud also like to make an appeal to fellow hubbers to list out a song or number of songs by raaja which clearly defined a paradigm shift in the last 4 decades....
It could be a orchestration (mostly) or the way he composed the tune...
For example taking the folk songs alone in annakkili even though folk feeling intact he experimented lot with western instruments but in virumandi its a altogether different experience much richer in using the local flavor or the song like "kottaiya vittu vettaikku pogum" in chinna thaayi... also wen it comes to ramarajan films its again something very very different from the above..
I dont know whether we can really list out songs this way... :confused2:

eagle, during the mid 1990s, especially initial post-symphony years, IR did stuff that were very different from his pre-symphony years - either they became too subtle, or way too sophisticated or maybe the opposite, i cant put my finger on it - songs of 'poovarasan' (the gentle breezy feel of the strings, maybe too much of tremolo/sliding effect ?), songs of the film featuring 'arumbum thalire' (used chords that IMHO, IR never did before), are few examples

Thx irir123, this is something i have never paid attention to. heard "arumbum thalire" but used to think it was not in tune with the times.... in pooavrasan "raasathi" song is amazing one in terms of orchestration...
the one song which i didnt listen to or probably disappeared from the scene quickly but discovered later is " meetatha oru veenai" from poonthottam whenever i hear the song now (i hear it too often) i get a feeling this is pure classic , a mini symphony... yeah i can see something he tried very different post symphony years... but unfortunately this phase is missed out by many of us HCIR fans...

eagle - not to nitpick, but we shd desist from using the word 'symphony' for anything and everything - the correct word is 'orchestral' - even for Hey Ram, the word 'symphonic' is incorrectly used to refer to the BGMs - thats coz, most ppl dont have any idea of what a symphony means - a symphony is a separate whole piece of work extending over an hours period, with several movements, whereas all that IR does is use short to very short motifs in films - the 'meetadha oru veenai' is rich in chords, orchestration of different gadgets, layering and yes, its indeed a masterpiece from a film music, or a popular cultural musical context, but 'symphonic' is a very wrong word to use here
