Yes.. That is what I referred there as well. Cheran is a good but not a great director ! (100% true) He is a good director IF u compare him to VISU or anyone who dealt with FAMILY DRAMA or anyone who dealt with HUMAN EMOTIONS in their film. In that sense, his scripts and narration just makes sure that we remain in the same platform rather than improving on story and screenplay front. His film are great ONLY IF we compare them with MASALA movies and feel happy. :) this is my personal opinion. I was referring to HIS SPEECH there since he was talking about the continuing MASALA trend and actors reluctance in accepting stories like SMK / Autograph. This has a direct INFLUENCE on his movie making and presentation IMO. I don't think it is OFF THE SCREEN thing. It puts him on the edge to PRESENT HIM AS THE HERO neglecting the responsibility of an intelligent creator. I am sure there are many young talents who could have done AUTOGRAPH much better than how Cheran did ! His prejudice and assumptions make him run as an egoistic director who forces his views on others ! :) (sorry if it sounded a bit harsh). He is definitly not in the league of directors who dealt with DIFFERENT SUBJECTS which radically paved a different way !

P.S: I never referred anything personal joe (I mean ur comments on cheran). But he is the BEST only IF we compare him to the likes of commercial directors :) If such masala directors are getting filtered, Cheran will be fit in their slots ! (if it happens in tamil cinema)

I respect your view ,though I can't agree with you fully in putting Cheran just as a family sentiment melodrama director . His Porkalam ,Desia geetham and Vetri Kodi kattu are not just family sentiments ,it has social elements also.

I found only one problem with him .He is not good in making films technically sound ,with getting best MD ,Best Art Director ,Best Cameraman etc like Top directors like Mani.

For his age ,he achived more than enough ,atleast he has a social responsibilty ,not making cheap movies in the name of commercial.

So should we make movies only with social message? :?

Agree fully ! Ya.. I loved his PORKAALAM inspite of its regular SISTER SENTIMENT / THANDA FATHER / LOVE IN THE NAME OF SANGAVI etc
Porkaalam little conveyed the message it was about to send !
Porkaalam commercial / masala elements > Sangavi bath scene !
whereas DESIYAGEETHAM was very good ! He just makes sure that in his recent movies those things never cross. Kudos and ALL THE VERY BEST for his upcoming venture.

I don't know it is commercial or not,but not Aapaasam .Bath scene edukkanumnnu valinthu edukka pattathu maathiri enakku theriyalla.

In our country ,most of the people are hypocrates when it comes to Aapaasam .Kissing is treated as Aapaasam .Parents used to make a big hype with their children ,purposely avoid a very natural kissing scene .But the same parents never switch off TV when the "thoppul" is purposelly focussed and zoomed in 'May maasam 98-l major aanene" song .For me this is aapaasam ,not a kissing scene ..(In kuruthipunal kamal says to his son "Athu onnum illada..ungka appa ungka ammavukku avan anpa kaamikkuran" ,when his son noticed he kissing gowthamy ) .In reality itha parthu yaarum kettu poga mattanga ..But when parts of the women purposely shown ,surely it is aapaasam.

cheran bayangara head-weight ... he thinks that he is only saviour of tamil cinema.... Aandavar kamal had done a lot of good movies and still he doesnt talk bad abt others... but this cheran, is talking bad abt people like vikram.... he treats the unit people very poorly just to pacify navya nair... enna kodumai ithu... cheran is not very great... first he should stop trying to act...
