படம் வழக்கமான துவக்கம்,பிறகு டாக்டர் கதாபாத்திரத்தின் நற்பண்புகள்(ஏழைகள் ,உதவி இத்யாதி), கல்லூரி மோதல் ,tease பாட்டு, காதல் , என்று என்னடா கொஞ்சம் தொய்கிறதே என்று பார்த்தால், பட்டாகத்தி பைரவன் அறிமுகம். சூயங் கம் மென்று கொண்டு, தோசைகல் கூலிங் க்ளாச்சுடன்,பைக்கில் அறிமுகம். பாரில் கலாட்டா. வில்லன் உடன் அறிமுகம். அவன் பெண்ணை தட்ட கூடாத இடத்தில் தட்டி கலாட்டா.மாடி வரை ஸ்போர்ட்ஸ் கார் ,சகுந்தலாவுடன் கொட்டம், போலீசுடன் நக்கல், பிறகு கொஞ்சம் சீறியேஸ் ஆக கற்பாம் மானமாம் பாடல் என விரிந்து ,எதிர்பாராத முடிவுடன் முடியும். NT அவருடைய அதிரடி பாணியில் (உத்தம புத்திரன் விக்ரம், நவராத்திரி DSP ) வெளுத்து வாங்கி பின்னியிருப்பார். அட்டகாச சிரிப்பு, restless ஆன திமிர் நடை,அகந்தையாய் ஈர்ப்புடன் வசன உச்சரிப்பு, துரு துருப்பு , rowdiyish handsome தோற்றத்தில்(ஒல்லியாக) ரசிகர்களை பைத்தியம் ஆக்கி இருப்பார். இந்த படத்தில் முத்தங்கள் நூறு பாட்டை பார்த்தவர்கள், ரஜினி ஸ்டைல்,நடை, நடனம் எங்கிருந்து உற்பத்தியானது என உணர்வார்கள்.
பாடல் மாமா மகாதேவன் பின்னியிருப்பார். இரவுக்கும் பகலுக்கும் அழகான ஓட்ட நடை பாடல்.(மற்றது விடிவெள்ளியின் கொடுத்து பார்),கல்யாண ஆசை ,சம்ப்ஹோ,கற்பாம்,முத்தங்கள், கோடியில்(ஆண்டவனே ஒளி விளக்கு பாணி) என நல்ல ஹிட் பாடல்கள்.
படம் நடு நடுவில் தொய்ந்தாலும் , மொத்தத்தில் விறுவிறுப்பாய் போவதே தெரியாமல் போகும்.
எதற்காக இல்லாவிட்டாலும் பட்டாகத்தி பைரவனுக்காக நூறு முறை பார்க்கலாம்.(ஏனென்றால் அவர் ஒரு முறை நடித்து விட்டதை மற்றவர்கள் நூறு முறை நடித்து பெயர் வங்கி விட்டார்கள்)

Pratap Pothenukku ENgal Thanga Raja theriyalaina enna thappu? If he got a chance to direct NT, what matters is did he make good use of it and deliver a decent product. And the answer is he did. Yatramozhi is far better than what many other directors delivered with NT. For that, I am grateful to Pratap even if he is ignorant of Veerapandiya Kattabomman or Thillana Moganambal.

Among the general mallu public, NT is remembered there for movies like Kattabomman, Pasamlar, Thiruvilayadal, Thangappathakkam etc. than his 'masala' hits like Engal thanga raja. This may be the case with Prathap also.
watched Uththamapauththiran today in Jaya Movies. What a clear differentiation of characters though look alike! For the part of Vikraman NT maintained the tempo of a spoiled brother addicted to drinks and women till the end even by his slightly shaking walk during the song sequence of Un Azhagai Kandu kondal. Watch the speed with which NT rides the horse in the climax without any stunt double and his amazing style of sword wielding with an exuberant youthfulness. Made me to sigh that this movie should be digitized and converted to color.

We are happy that the MGR thread is also growing up but, as far his films are concerned it is now beyond doubt established that no MGR movie whatever collections it had made in the past alongside NT movies, cannot stand to the records being created by our Karnan movie. My only request is let us not think much about MGR side but we need to concentrate on our aim of hitting the bull's eye with a careful selection of a sequence of NT's evergreen classics in the modern formats. The impetus gained by the success of Karnan needs to be kept up for its tempo as the present era also belongs to NT howsomany actors come and go. Let us not give up! In MGR thread, let his fans enjoy reminiscent thoughts about their hero, which in now way is going to hamper the succession of successes of NT in his new digital and 3D avtars.

As far as my understanding, the Malayalam film world including stalwarts like, Nedumudi Venu, Thilagan, Mohan Lal and Mamooty have a great respect for NT and they had showed that in organizing a Big show in appreciation of our NT getting "Chevalier' award from France. Mohan Lal has publicly announced that much of his acting has been influenced by our NT and he is grateful to him forever. Nedumudi Venu has acknowleged that " No one can do the change of feelings shown on the face within seconds like our NT has done".
They had given due respect to our NT than any of the counterparts in Tamil Nadu, I feel.

A quick look back on Karnan Re release:
I saw the film 6 times after its digitalisation. Stupendous and successful effort( though half an hour film viewing in strainful to the eyes due to vertical shakings, unfortunately escaped the eyes of the reformatting team). Otherwise Superb classical movie giving 3 hours nice entertainmen dressings, make ups, clearcut &fiery dialogues, meaningful lyrics, graceful dances, tasty music, majesty. This is a cult classic in all senses performance wise and also on the technical front. Hard to believe that such a movie was made in 1964 with limited resources. Let current directors watch this and learn how to make a good movie. Even current crop of actors have a lot to learn from this. Sure, Sivaji's and NTR performance stands tall. But, there was good team work within the entire cast.
Thanks to the entire team for giving such an everlasting entertainment along with history. Though sri Sivaji Ganesan clicks the first prize, others have also done very well.

Sad to hear the demise of Rajesh Khanna whose super hit Aradhana was remade by NT in Sivakamiyin selvan . May his soul rest in peace.

The film actually embraces many melodramatic sequences but in a way that should make maadern piryars happy, NT gives a controlled performance throughout. The result is quite enjoyable. Blame one's memory and Rajesh KaNNA(RIP) for spoiling the movie for you.
Despite chatti thalayan Ravinder, aduppu vaayan Pandian and YGM in his typical "nAn mookai sindhinA negizhchiyAna scenela nadikkaREnnu arththam" mode, and several such distractions, Sivaji and surprise package Ambi chechi create some nice moments to cherish.
Mr Khanna, Rest in Peace but do so in the knowledge that you spoilt a NT movie for me. Not your fault that I ended up watching your version only when I got to know vevaram but I still blame you.
And keep in mind, Mr Khanna's was the original.
