I have to watch this movie to bring back my memories of Senchi (Gingee) where I started school before Independence! :)
No! You are not in Kugan's kitchen thread!
I have heard 'modhakam', 'paayasam', 'thEn' 'paal' etc in classical compositions. Not 'appaLam' ! :)
This is not a movie song.

This is a composition by Ramana Maharishi rendered by Abhishek Raghuram in ragamaligai beginning with Dwijavanthi !
I like it and I thought I should share it with you! :)

Marudha malai maamaNiye murugayyaa ................ by Madurai Somu in Daarbari Kanada
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCDe9PMpBrI
I like the emotional outpouring in Madurai Somu's renditions. He sang a song on the deity in Thirukkarugavur (ThirukkaLavur) near Papanasam. Thirukkarugavur was his wife's place ( I think). If I find the song I will post it.
It starts with 'Karpa ratchagi thaaye...'.
The first carnatic vocal concert I attended was by K.B.Sundarambal in 1953 in Mayavaram(Mayladuthurai now). The main piece was " Rama Nannu Brovara" in Harikambhoji. I was searching for the composition and came across
Murugan Endradhume......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8aGuIqmDRI
In Rama Nannu Brovara she used 'meppulakkai kannathaavu.....'' for niraval. I liked the composition and started singing that line with my friends only to be teased asking 'enna bhashai idhu?' I did not know any telugu those days except for a few words! :)
The gramaphone in the video clip reminds me of the gramaphone my uncle had in our native village. It was an earlier version needing cranking and changing needles. The 78 rpm records were called plates. We used to bug our uncle to play plates (plate podunga) :)
Those were the days!
Good selection Poem
This man gave some memorable duets for Rajini during the transition period from a Villain to a lover boy Hero :)
Some of those which still lingers in my mind are..
"vizhiyile malarndhadhu" from "bhuvana oru kELvikkuRi". "kaNgalukku viLaindha maangani, kaadhalukku vaLarndha poongodi", rajini's 1st movie as a soft hero and these lines do help that image isn't it ? contrary to sivakumar's character, rajiniku than kaadhilyai paarthaalE pOdhum.. and alas his love life begins and ends there.
"kaNmaNiyE kaadhal enbadhu" from "aarilirundhu arupadhu varai". "aayiram kaalamum naan undhan maarbinil saaynthiruppEn vaazhndhiruppEn", IR uses this as the bgm when rajini gets to see his love getting married to someone... andha varilayE rajini'oda valiya koNdu vandhiruppaar
and ofcourse how can i forget my favourite "pesa koodaadhu" song :p
good selections.. one more song from panju arunachalam which i like is "vaa ponmayile" from "poonthaLir"
"azhagE sugam vaLara vaLara
ninaivE dhinam pazhaga pazhaga
uRimaiyil azhaikirEn uyirilE kalandhu magizha
vaa ponmayilE"
enakkum Ramnad'than poorvigam.. but vaLarndhadhu madras.. summer holidays ramnad manaRparappilayum, veyyil'layumthan.. so ceylon radio pathi nallaavE theRiyum :) but madras'la ceylon edukkaadhu, vividhabarathi'thaan.. infact madras baashai'la "sevulu ceylon edukkudhu"nu sonnaalE, kaadhu sariya kEkkaamaa goiiingudhu'nu meaning :)
