Thanks Grouch
really good one..Scorcese's belief in what the priest said ..that was good in the film too..the friendship was also shown well...the guy that shoots in the end is Scorcese himself...wow..lacked a plot i thought...btw the scene where Deniro cries to Kietel..amazing acting...any words on Deniro from u on that performance?...and few more on the Deniro/Pacino who is better never ending debate?...whenever i see a film of either one of them i get this question..
-
If you are looking for good plot, nah, you can't find it. Hopefully you will enjoy it more on a revisit. (The same Scorcese reappears as a passenger fantasising about killing his wife in Taxi Driver).
-
oh didnt know that...:)..yea will revisit again..
-
Grouch I know you are a 70s guy but was Mean streets in your list of top ten favorites?. I know Apocalypse now is the highest.
-
Mean streets and serpico - two films i regret not watching in n/f while i was there.
-
Actually Raging Bull is in the list. Watched Mean Street recently and was really impressed. Raging Bull more on acting, and De Niro coerced Scorcese into making it. But Mean Street is as personal he gets, and its realness, the humour really impressed me this time. athAn, best of Scorcese-nu sonnEn. My yet-to-be amended list.
What's n/f, Stan? I thought you were in city of brotherly lauvs...

Grouch
apdiye a word on Deniro/Pacino comparison and ur fav :)
-
Oh wow....that'd be difficult, can go stage by stage.
70s, De Niro's energy and Pacino's intensity (can be other way round too) helped to redefine on screen performance.
80s poor output from both, but vanthavarai lAbam.
90s downfall of de Niro after Casino, Pacino holding on but fast becoming a sad case of self-spoof.
00s de Niro here and there, and there, wooosh, goes Pacino.
Rendu pErukkum innum "athu" irukku, they are just after paycheques, and occasionally stumble into some good stuff.
Like my love for both Kamal and Rajini, I love them both but just as slightly tilted. de Niro = 55%, Pacino 45% (same ration for Kamal/Rajini)
I wished both had done film for Woody Allen, but their New York is different from Woody's, so might not have worked. Pacino with Scorcese back in 70s would have been superawesome, as would de Niro with Lumet.

thnx once again Grouch..:)
my fav will be Pacino to Deniro...in the same 55-45...Michael Corleone of Godfather 2 is the difference for me...just cant get over that performance...

Pacino stopped being a serious actor after 70's. Is this even a debate? Nicholson vs De niro would be more interesting.
