S. Varalakshmi, P. Bhanumadhi, AR Ramani Ammal - three very distinct female singers with very dominant unfeminine voices. :)
All three have sung very memorable songs, what being trained in carnatic music.
Thanks RR for the Kannan song, but for me S. Varalakshmi + Kannan song can surely be only the one and only neela nira mEgam ellaam neeyE kannaa from Thirumalai Deivam.
I don't have the facility to listen to POW and cannot judge the song, but I do remember that there was a movie called Sri Krishna Leela that came in the late 70s, starring Sivakumar & Srividhya directed by AP Nagarajan. Is this song from that movie?
-
NOV, i think there is another kaNNan song in Kavari mAn by SVL.
Krishna Leela :- Sivakumar = Krishnan, Sri Vidya = Rukmini, Jeyalalitha = Bama.
SKL also have another wonderful song by Soolamanggalam Sisters - anbE uyarnthathu avaniyile..... they list few types of anbu.
-
NOV, No idea. probably Neel can say more about the movie..!
Did Nagesh play kuselar? I vaguly remember one sivakumar-nagesh scene.
prem ananth,
SVL's kavari maan song (not kannan) was POW #206

RR,
Lakshmi Vanthachu to Varalakshmi Vanthachu. I like that. Thanks for featuring the song.
NOV,
There probably were a few Sri Krishnaleelas produced (or dubbed) over the years. But going by the style and recording quality it sounds like the song is from the 70s.
PremAnanth,
Aanmaiyaana? :-) How about Gambeeramaana?
I think SV,SG and TRM all have big voices and sing full-throated. If one likes that kind of singing, which is not in vogue anymore, Rajarajachozhan is an absolute feast. There is a yahoo group for SV songs and you will find some really rare songs there.

Lakshmi to varalakshmi..appuram? :)
For some reason, I could not listen to this song.
Some of SV's master pieces are:
takku takku - with A.P.KOmala and PS (vpk)
singaara kanne un thEn URum sollaale (vpk)
singaarap punnagai kaNNaarak kandaale - with M.S.Rajeswari (Mahaadhevi)
thanjai periya kovil with SG and TRM (RRC)
mangalam kaappaaL siva sakthi (thaay)
thenral vandhu veesaadho(sivagangai seemai)
The list may go on.. These are the ones I remembered.

Sri Krishna Leela was directed by APN and the MD was S.V.Vengkatraman. Released in 1977.
Thanks for the correction Neel. Yes SV's voice is Gambeeram.
I have interviewed few veteran TF actress for TV. Sowgar has said that P.Banumathi and S.Varalakshmi are her favorite singers and she love their voices. She was so petrify when said it.
Neel, could you send me the website of SV. really need it.
jn, i don't think so, SV sang for mahAdEvi.
As far as I know, SV never sang for others. (mahAdEvi leads by Savithri and M.N.Rajam)
What about uyirA, mAnamA.... Does she sang any song?
-
jn,
Pls try again and pm me if you still get the error.
premananth,
SV Venkatraman is the MD? Didn't know he was scoring till 70's..! The song has strong classicism though, indicating experienced MD. Apart from this, the bhaavam was the most striking for me in this song.

Hello RR, based on the tenderness of voice of SV, I think this is not from the Krishna leela directed by APN. It must have been in 50's. May be SVR was scoring music that period.
Anyway, nice song to hear.
-
Yes, RR.
I have checked in the VCD. SVVR was the MD fo SKL. If you listen Anbe Uyarnthathu from the same movie also sounds like 50's era.
The anbe uyarnthathu plays after the visiting of Kuselar (Nagesh). If I'm not mistaken the kuselar's wife is G.Sakunthala. (another favorite artiste of APN)
SKL which leads by Sivakumar, Jeyalalitha, Sri Vidya, SVL, Nagesh was released on 10 Nov 1977. Produced by R.M.Subramaniam, directed by APN and Music by SVVR.
