Komati - a place (or clan?) in Andhra. Komati Chettiars are merchants from the Andhra land. They slowly started settling in TN and Komati became Komutti.
Annan use panniyadhu, I go with honest. And I have read somewhere that komutti is a mukkONam shaped-thingi.
I think NPP is their first movie "together" (though only by a couple of months or so). Senthil is a dhObi and GM a drunkard. I don't remember exactly now but IIRC there are a couple of scenes together...
And, I'm 200% sure that 'eppadA kadA vettuveenga' was the most significant first milestone in GM's career (which was a few months prior to all-in-all-AR IIRC).
Anyways, no big deal - both are R Sundarrajan movies :-) Even if someone else comes and claims GM's big-first-comedy achievement was 'indha chennai mAnagaraththile siRappAna bilding' (PM), even that was a R S movie :-)
paththa vachchuttiyE parattai (16V ) & KPR were not really "comedian" roles, they were more of villain / villain's sidekick roles with not much of humor element...
So, the credit for introducing GM as the "main comedian" in a movie should go to R S.
