Most recently, Vijay (Thirumalai, Ghilli) and Vikram (Dhill, Dhool) are the impressive action heroes. Rajini used to be a good one, but in Chandramukhi he seemed comfortable in a non-dishum role.
Ajith, are you kidding me? Actually (you thala fans might like this one) Ajith has an innocent face that really pulls him down in action roles. He suited the role of Jeeva in Attagasam more than he did his rowdy twin. Ajith is more believable in lover-boy roles...(Kadhal Kottai.)
Well, we can't really include Rajini now cos of his age, but he used to be the best during his time. Now, I think Vikram is the best (Dhill, Gemini, Dhool, Saamy, etc)....

Surya is the best right now out of Vijay, Ajith, etc etc. Second comes in Vikram.
Surya (Nandha, Kaaka Kaaka, Sri)
Vikram (........Dhool.....maybe Anniyan, the other are just bad masalas!!!)

My list would be..
Surya- Kaaka Kaaka, a classy action film, Nandha was ok
Vikram-Gemini- I loved this one, just bcos of Vikram's stylish,elegant Action hero image
Vijay- I haven't seen Gilli fully, just some scenes, Vijay looked better.
Ajith- Dheena was too gud, Ajith is definitely a Stylish Action hero. So was Amarkkalam
Kamal- Alavandhaan Nandhu was stunning, with his gigantic muscles.
Rajni- What does this mean 4 rajni?? Ok, Baasha was good but rajni's physique doesn't really support him

Vijay is a good action hero. Recently Fazil commented that without even an "action hero body" Vijay had managed to fit the role of Velu to a T in Ghilli. However, I think Vijay's success lies in soft roles like Thullatha Manamum Thullam because of his innocent looks. Playful characters as in Vaseegara also suit him very well.
I think Vikram is cool as an action hero.

I think Dheena was the best Action Masala Movie by any other actors. it was acted by Ajith well. then solo action Movie I think is best is Amarkalam, his acting was good. all accepted that. I don't need anyone's credits now. he got a Dinakaran Award for that also
