Alan, Kannan is a proper name.
It is also used as a pet name - for babies, younger children as well as older lovers. :D
The name brings a warm feeling, which is so inexplicable. Tamil film's best lyricist/poet even named himself as a servant of Kannan. No prizes for guessing his name :P
I dont know about Malayalam, but the letter N in the name Kannan has a different sound from the normal N and thus my claim of uniqueness.
