Equally, the principals involved is each of them a stalwart that we can also say that "IR is not required; Sivaji and Kamal would have carried it anyway"Quote:

That of course goes without saying Plum. Veritable perfect storm with even bit players like Sangili Murugan and Renuka doing their job very well.
Can include Kushi? When did it got released?
2000 - May
u can add Kadhalukku Mariyadhai <if u want to have vijay film in the list>
Vijay kum BGM ku ennaiya sammandham :)Quote:

I think thErdhal should be changed to "best non-IR BGM of 90s", just to avoid unnecessary splitting.Quote:

Let's vote for this!
I also join the band wagon for renaming the thread to best non-IR BGM [1991-2000]. Modhalla idhukku vote pannuvom
No, I dont agree. As I have mentioned several times before, a Voting thread is just an excuse for me to generate discussion and analysis. If this dusts off equa's brain and makes him do a post on Mahanadhi, then my purpose will be solved.
"Then you are right, appo, deenga solradhu dhaan sari!"

1996 - Indian (kezha kamal theme - rivetting stuff)
1997 - Iruvar (BGM was great - but something was missing - however not much of competition)
1998 - ??????? Jeans (?! sumaar - but not much competition)
1999 - Hey Raam (no words - this is the best)
2000 - Alaipaayudhe (funky - and cool - maddy intro song bit podhume)

ARR :
Rhythm, Anthimandharai, Indian, Iruvar
For me, till date, Rhythm is easily the best ever work (BGM) of ARR. No other work of ARR come close to Rhythm.
ARR fans missed out Rhythm.
Deva:
Vaali, Porkalam, Natpukkaga. In Vaali, haunting piece of Piano is still going in my mind.
IR:
Idhayam, Hey Raam, Siraichalai, Dhalapathy, Sethu, Mogamul, Nadodithendral, Houseful, TIME, Unnai nenaichaen paattu padichaen, Guna, Devar Magan, Avatharam, Karisakaattu poove, Mahanadhi, Azhagi, Valli, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai and Poonthottam
Why IR fans missed out Siraichalai???.
VS:
Pasumpon
However, my top 5 choices would be like this
It is too tough to choose between Heyram, Siraichalai and Idhayam.
Next 2 in the list will be Rhythm and Porkalam.
Hey Ram (anEgama en vote'u idhukku thaan... hmm... paakkalam :) )
Thalapathy
Indian
Bombay
Baadsha :smokesmirk: (Why many of you missed this :? )
Devarmagan

1.Guna
2.Thiruda Thiruda
3.Kuruthippunal
4.Hey Ram.
Hey Ram, Thevar magan, Roja, Basha
Devar Maghan - The death of periya devar and the scene that follows to show Kamal as next devar..
It was different, as when someone dies, the MDs would usually go for the "pE pE pE pEEE" with the nadhas or sax.
But IR went on with "aala" with a bit of soga raagam. Usually the bgm would make you cry but this one is unique. It doesnt make you cry but it makes you feel bad that periya devar is dead. But with the continuing "aala" the sequence quickly changes and the backdrop with flashy images of Kamal becoming next Devar is something genius.
Now this is where your eyes tickle the tears after seeing Kamal and the "aala" still continues in the background.
Wonderful !

opening with opera, the musical piece sets out to search the soul's uncombed territories..........the wafer thin sitar notes accompanying the opera hum, grounds us with protaganists', as well as our geographical ignorance.....the synth bass, that follows, further intensifies the menace and hints at impending disaster for Amar
Khan varma in his path of desperation......sukhwinder's vocals, lazed with lust and love unequally with its echo effect, makes it sound like a voice coming from a deep hollow tunnel called "soul"......the tabla notes that follow, steers us to normalcy but only to be pushed back to oblivion with opera pitching in again......the aggressive synth bass, accompanying the tabla doesent let the song getting straightjacked into routine.......the echoing vocals, synth bass and opera humming, blend to
crisscross our senses and give us a perfect picture of the "boy next door's" dangerous wandering into unknown and unnneccessary terrotories......thump of the african type percussion that follows the scream sounds, is indicative of the girl's dark background and that danger to hero because of her is something organised....she
belongs to a group, to a world that is never accesible to love and the protaganist........the guitar strum rounds this musical piece off, confirming our doubts of impending danger for protaganist, raised by synth bass.....
i think this can be called a work of psycedelia, since it had all ingredients - sitar, tabla, indian notes, intoxicating vocals, guitar and bass........more than anything, the haunting effect hasnt eroded even after 12 yrs, it has increased maybe
very good one maddy. thanks for sharing
ofcourse, pleasure is mine :)Quote:
