The Tamil Epic Manimekalai was said to be by a Buddhist scholar of chettiar community. IlangovadikaL is often labelled as a Jain and if so, his brother Cheran Chengukkuttuvan ( of Kutta Nadu in present Kerala ) (NB. surname "kutty" (of kutta nadu, Kerala) might have been a Jain as well. A Pandian king was Jain and he was converted to "Saivam". It appears that at the height of this religious reformation, many Jains were put to death. Many of our present day Hindus' forefathers might have been Jains or Buddhists for that matter.
