Dear Ragavendra and Mr Rangan
I could not stop myself writing this.
I was enjoying the writings of Rangan's experience in theatre.
I had opportunity to talk to Murali sir when I visited Chennai, two years back.
My father now in sixties, lived in Madurai in his young days, has been ardent fan of NT and sure he will share his experience.
He used to tell me 100th day celebrations and first day first show experiences.
As told by Rangan, those in 50s and 60s are luckones.

Wah! What a nice narration with regard to Veerabhagu's imperious swaggering walk. It is simply superb (especially the two swashbuckling sentences appearing in bold fonts in the quote). Hats off to you, Mr.Rangan. Expecting more & more of this kind from you.Quote:

Pammalar sir, thanks for the excessive praise. I didn't write it just for the sake of writing - it just came from the bottom of my heart.
Upon thinking over the wonderful incidences that took place while watching Thangappadakkam last Sunday, I once again ascertained the greatness of Nadigar Thilagam, the legend. I give below two classic examples supporting my statement.
1) The theatre in which the film was screened was in no way comparable to any of the latest Malls, multiplexes or any other luxurious or posh theatres, for that matter. The screen, seats, projectors, audio system etc., was of very ordinary quality and other amenities were also very normal, though it is was not poor. None of these negative points were enough to deter the enthusiastic & ardent fans who thronged the theatre.
And the reason is .
2) Nowadays, in most of the cases, people produce a film, they distribute it, and as part of their marketing strategy, they advertise their product once in every five minutes in their own TV channels, to lure the audience. This is almost equal to selling brinjals & ladies fingers in the market. In spite of all their attempts, they get only a poor turn out and they readily blame the DVD, which is true only to an extent ( I own Thangappadakkam DVD and Im sure that most of the audience who came that day also have one).
On the other hand, there was hardly any advertisement for TP and we were able to see only few posters and that too only around the vicinity of the theatre. There was neither an ad in the news paper nor in the TV. It was only word-by-mouth advertisement that worked out wonders. Had there been publicity, it would have been a different story altogether.
And the reason is ..
Yessss!!! The reason is one and only NADIGAR THILAGAM & the un-conditional love and affection the fans had for him. Now one can imagine the power & authority of this immortal legend.
There is a verse in the song, Nalladhoru kudumbam.., where NT sings, paasam endru edhai solvadhu, bhakthi endru edhai solvadhu . Well, the answer is given above.

"கட்டிக்கோ தாலி கட்டிக்கோ" பாடலில், பாலசந்தர் நடனத்திலும், நகைச்சுவையிலும் கலக்கியிருப்பார் என்றால், அப்பாடலைப் பின்னணியில் பாடிய இசை மாமேதை எஸ்.வி.வெங்கட்ராமன் தமிழ், ஆங்கிலம், ஹிந்தி, தெலுங்கு, செளராஷ்டிரம், கன்னடம், மலையாளம் எனப் பல மொழிகளில் பல அநாயாசமான சங்கதிகளைப் போட்டு மிக மிகப் பிரமாதமாகப் பாடி ஒரு திரை இசை ஜுகல்பந்தியையே நிகழ்த்தியிருப்பார். இந்த இரண்டு தூக்கலான விஷயங்களுடன் போட்டி போட்டுக் கொண்டு, மிக மிக ஸ்டைலாக சிகரெட்டுடன் இதையெல்லாம் ரசித்துக் கொண்டே, நடிகர் திலகம் நடிப்பில் ஜெயித்துக் கொண்டிருப்பார்.
பத்மினி பாடுவதாக உள்ள "பகவானே கேளய்யா பச்சோந்தி உலகிலே" என்கின்ற பாடலைப் பாடியவர் பி.லீலா.

சென்னை சாந்தி திரையரங்கின் பொன்விழாவையொட்டி, நீங்கள் அமைத்திருக்கும் பதாகை (பானர்) மிக அருமை. அதை வெறுமனே பானர் என்று சொல்வதை விட 'சாந்தி தகவல் களஞ்சியம்' என்று சொல்லலாம். அதன் ஒவ்வொரு அங்குலத்திலும் உங்களது ஆர்வமும் உழைப்பும் தெரிகிறது. இங்கு கணிணியில் அளவில் சிறியதாகத் தோன்றியபோதிலும் அது எவ்வளவு தகவல்களை உள்ளடக்கியுள்ளது என்பதை ஊகிக்க முடிகிறது. (எனக்கென்னவோ புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்ட சாந்தி, நம்மை விட்டு விலகிப்போய்விட்டது போன்றதொரு உணர்வு. திரையில் நடிகர்திலகத்தின் தரிசனம் தோன்றாதது காரணமோ?).
உங்களது அபாரமான இந்த பேனரைப்பார்த்து 'மாப்பிள்ளை' (திரு.வேணுகோபால்) அவர்களும் மற்ற ஊழியர்களும் என்ன சொன்னார்கள்?. முதல் வகுப்புக்கு டிக்கட் வழங்கும் (பிரபல நடிகர்) 'சாந்தி குமார்' இப்போதும் அங்கே இருக்கிறாரா?. அல்லது ஓய்வெடுத்து விட்டாரா?. உங்களது இந்த அபார உழைப்புக்கு, 'சாந்தி பொன்விழா'வின்போது நிர்வாகத்தினரால் நீங்கள் சிறந்த முறையில் கௌரவிக்கப்பட வேண்டும். இது சாந்தி நிர்வாகத்தினருக்கு நான் வைக்கும் வேண்டுகோள்.
பெருந்தலைவர் அவர்கள் திறந்து வைத்த பழைய கல்வெட்டு, பல உண்மைகளை பறைசாற்றுகிறது. அதாவது 'காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சிக்காலத்தில் 'மந்திரி' என்ற சொல்தான் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டது. கழக ஆட்சி வந்த பிறகுதான் 'அமைச்சர்' என்ற சொல வழக்கில் வந்தது' என்ற ஒரு தவறான பிரச்சாரத்தை முறியடிக்கும் விதமாக, 1961-ல் அமைக்கப்பட்ட திறப்புவிழா கல்வெட்டில் முதலமைச்சர், நிதியமைச்சர் என்று இடம்பெற்றுள்ளன. அதுபோலவே 'சென்னை மாகாண' என்றில்லாமல் 'தமிழக' என்றும் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. அவ்வகையில் சாந்தி திறப்பு விழா கல்வெட்டு, சரித்திரத்தைப் பறைசாற்றும் கல்வெட்டாகவும் திகழ்கிறது. சென்னையிலுள்ள மக்கள், அதிலும் குறிப்பிட்ட ஏரியாவிலுள்ள மக்கள், அதிலும் சாந்த்யில் முதல் வகுப்பு டிக்கட்டில் படம் பார்த்த மக்கள் மட்டுமே கண்டு வந்த அந்த கல்வெட்டை, இன்று தமிழ் கூறும் நல்லுலகின் பார்வைக்கு அளித்த நீங்கள் வாழ்க.
நடிகர்திலகத்தின் புகழ் பரப்பும் ஒரே காரணத்துக்காகவே ஆண்டவன் உங்களை நூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் வாழ வைக்கட்டும். (அப்போதும்கூட, கையில் கைத்தடி ஊன்றிக்கொண்டு சாந்தி வளாகத்தில்தான் சுற்றிக்கொண்டிருப்பீர்கள்).
