Dear Suvai, I cooked this cumin rice with ponni rice, as I ran out of basmathi.
So the picture is not that appealing, but the taste was yummy.
Please try with basmathi rice. Thanks, Kugan98
CUMIN RICE
Ingredients:
3 cups of basmathi rice.
2 medium onion sliced
5 green chillies, slit into 4 and cut across
2 tsp ginger paste
2 tsp garlic paste
Salt to taste
Little coriander leaves for garnishing
2 tbs ghee or oil
1 tbs cumin seeds
2 one inch cinnamon sticks
3 cloves
2 bay leaves
Method:
Soak the rice for 15 minutes, then drain. Keep aside
Heat ghee in a wok, add in wok.
Add in the cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and cloves.
Add in the cumin seeds and let it splutter.
Add in the onions and fry till light brown.
Add in the green chillies, ginger and garlic paste.
Fry for a minute till raw smell goes.
Add in the drained rice, sauté gently for a minute.
Now transfer the whole thing to a rice cooker.
Add in 4 ˝ cups of water and salt.
Mix every thing once gently, and cook in the rice cooker.
When cooked, fluff up the rice and garnish with coriander leaves.
NOTE: You can even cook this dish in a pressure cooker.
Give 2 whistles and remove.
