W.r.to your arrambam point, believe me even if Jilla did not do well, Vijay will get high number of screens for his movie with ARM. getting screens is culmination of many factors.
1. Producers
2. Star Value
3. Director
4. Release time (festival release, solo)
5. Promotions
6. Genre
7. Casting (multicasting, heroines, supporting roles)
8. Trailers/Songs
9. Censor certificate
These are just some of the factors I can come up with.
1. Producers - we all know, Super good films is a bigger and better brand any day compared to Vijaya productions. SG films obviously have strong hold with distributors and theater owners than its competitor
2. Star value - Lets say both have equal market- we cannot debate this ! but since Aarambam did well and Thalaivaa did not do that much business - lets say Aj has an upper hand here.
3. Director - Both were in same boat b4 the movie. Naeson and Siva both did not have good track record. So cancel this one too
4. Release time - again rule this out as both released simultaneously
5. Promotions - Jilla has an upper hand here, Coz the hero comes up in front of the media to promote his movies and rescue the theater owners in case if the movie did not do well.
6. Genre - both family entertainers - so rule out
7. Casting - Jilla has an upper hand here again - who want to miss Vijay + lal in a mass entertainer ?
8. trailer/songs - both were in the same league. according to me Jilla had a slight edge in songs
9. Censor - both U - rule this out too.
So considering all these factors, If I was a distributor and if i wanted to play safe, I would have allocated more screens to Jilla any day !
