thumburu, You got it exactly what I thought. :smile: That was the main reason I also just posted that song, if anyone is seeing any resemblance with viLayAtta padagOtti, which I felt when listening to this song. Dhoni's song definitely took me to 50's/60's like AasayE alai polE and Thazhayaam poo mudichu song.
IR as a singer is Good IMHO, there were few songs which was "only IR possible" like
1) Jananani Janani Jagam nee agam nee - It still sends shivers down my spine even today!
2) then pandi cheemaiyile
3) Unakena thaanE inErama naanum kathirunthEn
on the other hands, many of his songs would have sounded better if some other singer had sung it (like SPB, PJ for example)
Raaja Raajathi Raaja intha Raaja - by default should have been SPB song
