TMS - oru chinna kathai.....In the film gouravam, the famous song "palooti valartha kili".....was first sung by MSV, as TMS WAS ABROAD ,as a track voice...which means like a dummy voice....The shooting was scheduled and TMS wasn't back...they heard MSV's rendition and pronounced it satisfactory and went ahead with the shooting, so at the time of shoot , nadigar thilagam moved his lips to suit MSV's singing....after shooting and when TMS had returned, MSV tried something....he played the edited song with sivaji acting and had TMS sing for it....one of history's lone case of "playback acting". Such was the poruththam between Nadigar thilagam and TMS.
I will try to contact MSV sir and get the GK venkatesh story verified....give me some time.
I also feel k.j.yesudas has sung for shivaji some hit songs.
can someone try to list popular songs sung by other playback singers for shivaji?
SPB in Pattakati Bairavan (My fav Shivaji song ever)..
pattakathi bharaivan is a movie name?

In Andhamaan kadhali, Mellisai Mannar composed 2 splendid songs through KJY
1. Ninaivaalay silai seidhu unakaaga vaithen
2. Andhamaanai paarungal azagu
but during this period IR was emerging as a strong force and this coincided with the end of the legendary MSV
Again in Imayam , there is a splendid song..
Gangai yamunai ingu dhaan sangamam ...from KJY and VJ
The last of the best songs in the late 70s which TMS sang for Nadigar thilagam should be :
1. Neramidhu neramidhu - Rishimoolam
2. Sindhu nadhikarai oram - Nalladhoru kudumbam
3. Nallavarkellam saatchigal rendu - Thyagam
4. Then malli poovay - Thyagam
5. Andhapurathil oru magarajan - Deepam
I think from Devanin kovililay yaavarum deepangalay, IR started using Malaysia Vasu and after that he continued for long....
TMS - Countless
Malaysia Vasu - Many (poongkaatru thirumbumaa, etc)
Ilayaraja - Eraadha malai mEla
CSJ - kaa kaa kaa
Sirgaazhi - Odi vilaiyaadu paappaa
AM Raja - ullangal ondraagi (punar jenmam)
Ghantasala - veyillkEtra nizhal undu
Chandrababu - jolly jolly life
PBS - kandEnE unnai
SC Krishnan - poonai kannai moodi kondaal
Sai baba - twinkle twinkle little star
Jayachandran - oru Osaiyindri
Sailendra Singh - Love is fine darling
SPB - Handful (pottu vaiththa mugamO)
Mano - vaan nilavE (Mannavaru Chinnavaru)
Yaar pinnani koduthathu nadigar thilagaththukku in his first movie 'parasakthi'?? was it also TMS?
You must be joking NM!
It was CS Jeyaraman who sang playback for Sivaji: dEsam gnyaanam, kaa kaa kaa, nenju porukkudhillaiyE
TMS first sang for Sivaji in the MGR-Sivaji movie koondu kili. The song was konjum kiliyaana pennai
sorry, nov....enakku antha alavukku theriyaathu....
my knowledge of songs/movies/paadagar is very pathethic  :(
TMS got a break from sivaji movie 'Thooku Thooki' ,the song 'Yeratha malai thanile'Quote:

This is what Manisekaran has to say about TMS singing for Sivaji....
In 1954 through Maruthakasi’s recommendation TMS was taken to sing in Aruna Pictures Thooku Thookki. He was taken to the Film Center Studio for recording. Sivaji Ganesan who used to be given playback by CSJayaraman doubted the suitability of the voice of TMS. TMS was willing to sing three songs free. TMS and Sivaji Ganesan were introduced to each other. In the short conversation TMS studied the voice of Sivaji Ganesan. (Right from the beginning TMS was excellent at imitating the voices of most of the heroes he sang for.) And he did sing Sundari Soundari and Eratha Malaithaniley, imitating the voice of Sivaji Ganesan to the closest possible. When G Ramanaathan heard his voice and gave TMS the chance to sing all the songs for Sivaji Ganesan.
G.Ramanathan had already used TMS in Mandiri Kumari (Annamitta Veettile). That was how Sivaji got involved with TMS. All the songs were instant and great hits. The fame of TMS shot sky high overnight. There was already a talk that the voice of TMS suited Sivaji Ganesan very much.
While this development was going on, in the same 1954 TR Ramanna and TR Rajakumari started the RR films that produced some of the best movies in Tamil. As the film was under production stage, TMS was given a chance. TMS was invited to sing only chorus. But Tanjai Ramayah Dass was very impressed with the golden voice of TMS, and he requested the story and dialogue writer Vindhan (at that time known as Makkal Writer, and a close friend of Jayakanthan) to give TMS a chance to sing a full solo.
By this time Sivaji Ganesan had known TMS as they had worked together in Thookku Thooki songs. Koondukkili is the first film where TMS had sung under KVM’s composition, with the song Konjum Kiliyana Pennai. It was actually G. Ramanathan who built up TMS by that great movie.
That was the first song by TMS for Sivaji Ganesan. Just to mention that in films following Thookku Thookki, Sivaji Ganesan was not adamant about using TMS as playback singer, until the early 1960s when he started to insist on TMS singing for him.
thx nov, madhu, nm and all.Quote:

Few more sivaji movies produced by AVM
Pachai ViLakkau is one of them.
Even ,Nadigar thilagam's first movie Parasakthi produced by AVM
Actually "parasakthi's co -producer was AVM, the original producer was mr.P.A.Perumal of national pictures a strong periyar follower.he also produced Ratha kanneer. Nadigar thilakam(NT) and his family to this day visit the perumal household once a year pongal or april 14th and give some sarees etc to mrs.perumal.AVM were to fund the project and moved in assisting with studio/equipment/technicians etc.Ultimately they had to step in to finish the picture.....started shooting in the second half of 1950 and released for deepavali 1952.Imagine the mental agony of NT...waiting for his first picture.....in his biography he refers to the struggle. In private once told me.....dey...mohan....avm lla oru oru shooting floorikku naduvala maram ellam irrukumey parthirukaraya......athu ellam valarnthathu chettiar alunga oothina thaneerla illai....intha ganesan kaneerla...."AVM also produced his 125th film uyarntha manithan, yes antha naal produced by AVM and directed by VEENA virtuoso S.Balachandar.......a musician makes a songless film, inspired by the Kurosawa classic "Rashoman".
Mohanram sir ... nijamaavae avaroda uzhaippu yellavatraiyum thaandi nirkkum
can u explain this sir ? am not able to get his implicit meaning !Quote:
alunga oothina thaneerla illai....intha ganesan kaneerla
Also i envy you :-) u had chances to meet NT, talk to him personally ... :-)
It is not that the trees were watered by AVM's gardners...they were watered by the tears of sivaji......during the making of parasakthi, he had to suffer number of taunts/insults/disappointments etc.In fact once when he was in a corner crying because someone was critical of him, it was mr. krishnan (of krishnan-panchu) who came and told him not to cry and that one day all 'these fellows" will line up in front of you for a callsheet....N T had tremendous regard for krishnan and called him "deivam" -page 89 of his autobiography. We know him as "simhakuralon" and during Parasakthi people in the sound engineering dept. said why is he neighing like a horse...Kutharai mathiri kanaikiraan......Ironical isn't it.As they felt he was thin they wanted to fatten him up and you can see him in parasakthi in various sizes and shapes......they shot 7000 feet and then scrapped the film.....then it was reshot later after a lot of discussion and debate on the 'hero"..the only portion in the film from the first lot was his searching the streets of madras....shot by the original cameraman and not maruthi rao who worked on the reshoot.People like perumal mudaliar, krishnan etc stood by him and when avm asked perumal to reconsider and whether they should use an established actor like K R Ramaswamy, it was vetoed by mudaliar who said that if he does the film it will be with ganesan....no wonder he called these people his 'deivams".
wow that nice info sir..... regarding the book you have mentioned mentioned some time back about great shivaji guess its available in shanthi theatre also

I got a VCD ,recording of the function 'ImayathiRku Inthiya Anjali' conducted by raj TV..In thae VCD there is a program by Y.G.mahendra ,he presented few famous nadigar thilagam scenes in a comical way followed by original scene ..In Kattabomman scene ,you are the one acted as kattabomman ,and you (kattabomman) talked like a hero of manirathnam movie (with single word reply)..That was holorious..I enjoyed a lot your performance .."kodukkamattan..pommu..kodukkamattan" ha ha ha..
I heard even AV Meyyappa chettiyar was not happy with ganesan as a hero of Parasakthi since he didn't want to take risk with a new face that too very slim ,with unusual dialogue modulation at that time .
But after few years the same AV Meyyapa chettiyar said that Sivaji ganesan is undoubtfully the world's best actor.
:-( Even a legend had a terrible start ! It is always a habit for a Bigger whale trying to swallow a smaller fish ! But u never know !Quote:

wow...... industry!
Even Amitabh Bachchan was disqualified for Radio compering ... saying his voice will not attract audience
But u know, sometimes, these kind of instances have made legends ........... i didnt say this sarcastically ... just a thought ... probably if he would have been selected in Radio ... we may not have a Big B ...
AVM chettiar was a gentleman and an honest one...during the 100th day function for Uyarntha manithan, in the presence of Anna, he acknowledged that he had doubts about NT and that how wrong he was...takes a great man to admit his error, publicly. I do not know if the book is available in shanthi theatre, it is in Landmark. I strongly recommend it, tells you a lot about the legend and the man. they are planning an english edition for release hopefully on october 1st. :)
Ofcourse,I didn't blame AVM .He is a great person with honesty.AVM always give great respect for NT.
I remember seeing a movie.. Sivaji suffers from night blindness.. He wants to hide it from his family.. which results in his lover, mother everyone suspecting him.. A gang to blackmail him.. Can some1 give the name of the movie pls..
The heroine is K.R vijaya... :) and he also sing a song during children's day.. but i don't know the name too :(Quote:

Midway, he will get affected by the colour blindness and will fall down which will make all the kids laugh instantly.
