Shakthi: I add information about ragas as tid bits. Once a north Indian friend asked me about the carnatic equivalent of Bhimpalasi. I told him it was Abheri and that we also use Bhimpalas. That is why you see ragas mentioned. I don't think we want to make it too technical! I will think about it. All my books on music are in storage! :(

thanks raj...lovely songs.. Bageshri...For me it also sounded mildly like dwijawanti (akilandeshwari) ...(may be my love towards dwijawanti taken this far) . Watching lata's version made me curious and I just checked the story. Sanjeev kumar and rehna sultan, in 1970 movie it seems. I wish someone could throw a one line spoiler about the climax.

Tamil movie songs have used ragamaligai. For the first time I found a Hindi movie song in ragamaligai (gaud sarang,miyan ki malhar,jogiya and bahar) The song is about seasons (Ritu) from Hamdard(1953):

I was hearing Dastak songs just before entering this thread, and raj sir has already posted this song. You read my mind. :smile: I love Madan Mohan's rendition. That's the soul we are taking about from the true souce from where the song was originated. :notworthy: What a combination, Lata-Madan!

You also added another surprise this week, with Anil Biswas composition. What a singer Manna Dey is and Lata-Manna Dey is always a very special and rare combination. Thanks raj sir!

BTW I was collecting and listening to some C. Ramchandra's (Chitalkar) gems this week from Albela, Anarkali, Baarish, Nadiya Ke Paar, Navrang, Pehli Jhalak, Samadhi, Sangeeta, Shehnai, Zindagi Aur Maut and many more.

Wanted to post everything, but one from that everlasting list from Baarish by Lataji and Chitalkar himself. They are all big mountains and hearing these compositions seems like today's generation songs are not even molehills.

I am a big fan of "old" Hindi songs too, but what I considered old until recently were not nearly as old as the great songs that are being posted on these pages these days! For a change of pace, here is a folksy "old" one!

"yammaa yee yamma vuu yammaa vu yammaa..."; a song from Rajshri's SUN SAJNA (1982); sung by K.J. Yesudas and Usha Mangeshkar; with music by Raam Laxman. Yesudas also sang happy and sad versions of the duet "sun sajna mEra mann..." with Anuradha Podwal in the same movie.

I vaguely remember watching the video of this song a long time ago on a VHS player. Could not find a video online.

This is real fusion, in a linguistic sense; "mEri bhaasha thamiL hei, thEri bOli malayaaLam, mil hi gayaa par thErE hrudhayam sE mEraa idhaiyam..."; a Tamil guy and Malayali girl singing to each other in Hindi! :)

Starting from this song to Yeh Raat Bheegi Bheegi to Panchi Banu uditi phiroon to Jahan Main Jati Hun, you can't pick the best. Shankar-Jaikishen at his best!

I don't know how to describe the beauty of the composition. Whether it is because Roshan has put all his soul in it, or whether Rafi sang this song with the best of soul and pain in it, or whether Sahir Ludhianvi has brought out the best in lyrics (every line is a gem), or the sitar which plays along carries us to immortality or whether it is because it is composed in Yaman raga, I don't know. Very very less songs fall into the category with respect to the soul it has got. A eternal classic by Roshan ji from the film Chitralekha (1964). God's own singer - Rafi saab!

Another timeless classic Dil Jo Na Keha Saka by Roshan ji from Bheegi Raat (1965). Every song (Aise To Na Dekho Ke, Jaane Woh Kaun Hai Kya, Mohabbat Se Dekha) in this film is a true classic! Roshan ji has taken this composition to greater heights, by composing in higher octaves to bring out the sadness and depth in Rafi's singing (as per the situation). A perfect example of a pathos song which need not be dull. A very bright pathos song, but the power in the singing and the lyrics will make us feel the pain and hit you hard, that's where Roshan ji and Rafi saab stands tall. Compare this song and the previous one and see how Rafi saab brings out the difference in shade for almost similar situation.

Again you read my mind. Last week it was Roshan's week for me and you aptly picked two exquisite numbers of Chitalkar and Roshan ji from Stree and Aarti. Aarti is one of Roshan ji's best and my all time favorite. Every song in that film proves the genius in Roshan ji. Great to hear the ragam info for baar baar tohe kya. Every time I hear Aarti songs, I never failed shedding tears. Every composition is truly a masterpiece created only for singing Gods Raji and Lata. For kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya I only heard the Thamizh version, but the original is in Telugu sung by legends Ghantasala and Jikki while thamizh version was sung by Ghantasala and P Susheela, composed by Adi Narayana Rao (husband of Anjali Devi, she is the one acting for this song). One of the greatest composition, (not just in films) by Adi Narayana Rao. I think the hindi version is dubbed version of Telugu. In Thamizh the lead actor is different; Gemini Ganesan. Any budding singer in reality show does not fail to sing this song. Here is the thamizh version.

Sunil, I am not sure what is mera pyar song is. I think you got it. I was saying Telugu is the original of Kuhu Kuhu Bole. Hindi was dubbed from Telugu, while Thamizh was remade from Telugu. Thanks for sharing Kaahe Chhed Mohe. :smile:

K C Dey I have assorted collection and listened only few. Great singer! Unfortunately he lost his vision at his young age. :sad:

My sister loves Rafi-Asha duets more than Rafi-lata duets. No big reason, may be the contrast between their voices is striking or the songs they both got are more special, since the music director has opted for Asha ji rather than top favorite Lata ji (excluding the unavailability factor) tells us something. Asha ji is underrated having lived in Lata ji's shadow, one of the greatest singers of all time. You can see her power in O P Nayyar's compositions, but here once again from Madan ji. Defining a pathos song! Nice to remember hearing this slow song amidst the rush and fast Mumbai squeezing train travel back to home after a tired day at work. What a contrast and neutralizing factor!

Waiting to hear. :smile: Babul Mora Naihar is one my most favorite Saigal song and I remember posting it sometime in December 2010/early last year with other versions as I heard this song was much popular those days. Thanks again for reminding such a rare gem.
