Kubrick, don't know about that movie. When we watch them, we allow them to assault our audio visual senses and if it's great, it's great. Commentaries however accurate the observations and recollections, can also mostly be after thoughts, things picked up from critics reviews, retrofitted glorious bullshits picked up from film student groupies, etc. Also, it could be that the filmaker took lots of pain to include those so called subtle intricacies, worked careful on those techniques to achieve the end result. My point being, watch first, if curious, watch again with commentary.
