you nailed it h_h
I still know that Kamal is the King of opening both with mass + class.
Vetri Vizha was one such opening I witnessed in Bangalore in the late 80s. Not to mention SKV, Kakki Sattai, Nayagan, even Japannil Kalyanaraman opened in several screens during its release. Those days the theatre owners and exhibitors had a nexus and would not reveal the actual collections nor did they keep count of tickets sold. we had over flow crowd watching movie at the side ways , doors were kept open and all across crowd watch and would give a feeling there would be a stampede if things went out of control.
I still remember the screen tore when they tossed hundreds of coins at Lakshmi theatre near ulsoor (halasuru now). I witnessed a fabulous opening for "Chanakyan" as well and this time it was Sree theatre just opposite to Lakshmi. Pallavi , Urvashi, Nataraj , Lavanya used to sell out for almost 3 to 4 days of the opening week only with advance booking starting with Balcony, upper and middle seats and left open just the few rows of front seats which was anyways a fraction of the revenue. only later for a few years Super star ruled the roost with Post Dalapathi, Annamalai. It was only Kamal movies that crossed 100 days on probably a hundred occasions. Several of kamals Telugu ventures have done 100 days at Urvashi and pallavi . Come on ! who else has such a record in India with multi languages and all the territories .
I bet no one can come close to him
