SKR - i might sound like the devils advocate here, but step back and think for a minute !
1. the symphony rights are with Pyramid or AVM audio
2. if IR performs the same, he will have to pay royalty to the rights owners
3. the word 'symphony' is being used in a rather irresponsibly casual manner by the media as well as fans - for instance, media says 'IR gives a symphonic score at the end of 'madhana bhaan' song in Hey Ram' - it does NOT mean that it is a symphony by any standards - the word symphony is used as a metaphor, in a figurative sense by many and sundry even without understanding what a real symphony is!
4.that being the case, this might as well be an orchestral score by IR totally unrelated to the symphony and yet have the feel of a western classical composition! IR in his spare time (which am sure he has lots now, given that as opposed to 45-50 films a year, does less than half that last one decade or so!) must have composed/written tons of scores - it is most likely a compilation of those
5. for all that we know, they could be from his own India 24 hrs, as well as Music Messiah, TiS and variations of the Lajja, Hey Ram and other film scores (given that those copyrights are with respective producers as well)!
6. i dont how many of you know this, a few years ago, a music school affiliated to a university in Indiana, had apparently requested IR to do a score for a cross-cultural event and IR had indeed composed a special score which were played as the curtain raiser for that event ! will send the link when i find it!
7. like this, am sure IR has been doing scores on and off, that most of us are not even privvy to ! for strange reasons, IR keeps it all low-key !
8. IR himself has said in several interviews and also to ppl personally that the '1993 symphony will never come out' - so let us not jump to conclusions
9. however, copyrights issues apart, it does not mean that he cannot compose future orchestral works - which he is probably doing - a western classical music friend of mine (have several of them) told me once that even a short motif from IR's works in his film tracks can be developed into a nice little concerto, such a concerto for the flute, the piano, the strings etc!
10. my guess is that IR is most likely coming out with such scores
11. a symphony needs a huge complete orchestra! and the word itself means 'synchronization of different orchestral sounds' - syn + polyphony = symphony, with different/various movements and most importantly require PIN-DROP TOTAL SILENCE! do you think we are capable of that ?? going by what happened at the HTNI and NBW concerts, I seriously doubt that - no way can a symphony be performed with the audience hooting, howling and whistling all the time! that is ok for a rock concert but not for a symphony performance.
12. me-thinks, IR has feedback from the HTNI/NBW concerts - as a kind of reconnaissance, if you will ! - as to how we all take to his creative classical crossover works! - also a means of slowly grooming us to be better listeners / appreciators of stage/live orchestral performance
13. now he is shifting gears ! which is good and heartening ! we will likely see more of this - hopefully, this will open up ears as well as musically savvy producers approaching him for market-viable creative works ! that shouldnt be a problem, because, all IR needs is a few of these concerts, and ppl will flock
14. why am saying this ? the music appreciative ability lying hidden and latent in all of us can be easily triggered by a catalyst like IR's music ! for ex., my maharashtrian friend, who has NEVER heard of IR, needed just 5 tracks of IR - beatsy, rhythms (asai athigam vacchu, a few telugu songs) and a stern reminder that SADMA was scored by IR and not Anand-Milind (which is what he thought until i corrected him, saying AM cannot score a SADMA even if they work for a film like that their entire lifetimes!) - to get hooked to IR
15. point is - people will get hooked to IR if ONLY they listen to his music! most of India dont even know such a composer exists!! can you believe that ??
16. from that perspective, these concerts are awesomely welcome!
17. last, but not the least, hopefully you will hear interesting contributions from yours truly on the IR music - reviews front in reputed music journals etc etc !!
same koschen here!
Guys! is there any no official announcement anywhere, about the content?
Also, I dont buy the "secret" aspect associated with this. Why the secrecy? If it is indeed his 1992 symphony, it is very high profile and obviously the whole film fraternity must be already posting "all the best", "cant wait for the show" kind of stuff on twitter and in TV.
I really wish this is big. but the event still remains a mystery to me. I got to book tickets.. but it will be good if the mystery is revealed soon and not on that D day!
