Thanks for the scan image of Kovai edition highlighting Karnan's success. Again goes to show how the movie has performed exceedingly well across TN.

Sivakamiyin Selvan was not a flop. It might not have ran for 100 days but it was a huge commercial success. In almost all the releasing centres it had completed 9 weeks. In our Madurai it was 10 weeks and the maximum run came at Chennai Devi Paradise where it ran for 76 days. There too it had to be shifted because another NT movie Vani Rani came there. SS was released on 26th Jan of 1974 and it ran till April 11th. On 12th April, Vani- Rani was released.

In our Madurai Sri Devi theatre, the film celebrated 104 continuous House Full shows in the sense all the shows screened in the first 31 days were House full. In Sri Lanka it was a huge hit and it surpassed many a collection record there.

Being a remake of a very successful movie, people tend to compare and that might have given you this impression.

Another interesting tidbit is, this movie was re-released last year in Madurai Central on 31st March, Friday. Sunday the 2nd Of April was the day when Cricket World Cup Final was played. In spite of that this movie attracted a huge audience and it collected around 54-55 K in that one week which was a tremendous achievement.

These are the info, I am able to recollect immediately. There are other interesting facts also.

Going again 2 Karnan listthis week with my father ardent sivaji sir fan.Recently read Sivaji Black & white hit movie list, Paa series 50th year, Sivaji 's Velli vizha movie hit list.Awesome book . Now I can fight with people who under estimate Sivaji sir. But a monthly magazine 4 NT must be brought.Also @ least 4 movies per year must be released
