I watched ‘Engiruntho Vanthal’ the other day after a long spell and thoroughly enjoyed it. While some of the other producers’ remakes flop as the movies fail to adopt the ‘Tamilization’ from the original Hindi movies, Balaji’s remakes were always lucky in a sense those were successful enough to get box office records even they lacked the ‘Tamilization’. Probably just because they have better screenplays, directions, dialogues, songs and above all, Sivaji Ganesan in them! There is one character that the non-NT fans can’t accuse him of over acting is the Gunasekaran character in ‘Engiruntho Vanthaal’. Just say If NT had given a low -key performance to that mentally disturbed Gunasekaran character, then would those who criticizes him of over acting have accepted it? I don’t think so. That character definitely needed loud, over the top performance and NT excelled in it especially his one man show of ‘kaviyarangam’ which proved his intense observation.
The scene in which NT becomes sane shows his special touch! After the villain falls from the balcony he looks down and suddenly remembers the past and his face slowly changes back to normal. He depicts that wonderfully! The film also gave Jeyalalitha a chance that she could act too. She was very good in the scene where she tries to convince NT to remember the things he had done when he was mentally disturbed. Brilliant!

Actors/Actressess will shine only if they acted with NT. It is not possible
for them to show their acting talent when they acted with other actors.
