Yeah, having written that, I was wondering about the same myself. There are many words (even excluding the ones that basically originated from Sanskrit) which has a 'நகரம்' in the middle of the word -- specifically when there two words join in conjunction to form a word. 'தொலைநோக்கு' for example.Quote:

Coming to the topic, this is a wonderful series of essays, Prabhu Ram. A pleasure to read.
Sivaji's Periya Thevar is no doubt one of the greatest performances Tamil cinema has seen. Often one hears of how Kamal the filmmaker brought out a great "contemporary" performance from Sivaji, as if to suggest that Sivaji did something characteristically unlike his own kind of acting! But, in my opinion, the performance is unmistakably Sivaji's. The keenly perceptive gestures, the dialogue delivery, the spontaneous adoption of an apt body language, all come straight out of Sivaji's repertoire. Quintessential Sivaji, if you will. Only that it's channelled or exploited the way it deserves to be.
In a way, 'Thevar Magan' is a great tribute from Kamal to the stalwart, whom he loves, revering whose performances he grew up. (I can almost imagine Kamal referencing various yesteryear performances of Sivaji to say how he wants the veteran to do a particular scene.) What Kamal did in Thevar Magan is to give a role that's worthy of the actor. And, when he "re-introduces" Sivaji in his film, and makes him say, "எல்லாம் பழைய முறுக்குத்தேண்டி..." it's Kamal reverently noting that it's the same old actor and the performance is all his.
Also, among the many Godfather-inspired films/performances, this is the performance that stands tall, and more importantly, standing fully on its own. Incidentally, almost everyone who did a Brando (to varying degrees, admittedly) won a National Award -- Nayagan, Agneepath, Thevar Magan, Maqbool -- until Amitabh Bachchan's Sarkar. But, it's overwhelmingly evident that Thevar Magan's Periya Thevar sits awkwardly in that list. There's simply no Brando in that performance. It's all Sivaji.
Yes, kAkkA Radhakrishnan's second innings in Kamal's films is a sheer delight. Regarding his turn as Chinna Thevar, let's not forget that the casting was also a throwback of sorts to 'Manohara'.Quote:

Prabhu Ram sir,
your analysis about the 'charectorisation and presentation' of Periya Thevar is simply tremendous.
you are bringing out new dimentions for that roll, which most of us not watched earlier.
continue please...
Dear EQ,
We enjoy your feedback on Periya Thevar as much as we do PR's writing. Esp." Pazhaya murukkutheandi "...
