If you can tolerate Vijaikant and his pronunciation please go ahead and watch this film. Or, if you can tolerate one of those Manivannan's bottom-of-the-pile films please go ahead and watch it... Okay, don't watch it. If you have already watched it, I am so sorry.

baroque, you are welcome. I watched those films but don't remember if Manivannan was in those films. It is the same guy who acts in comedy roles and occasionally character roles since the 90s and doing a great job at it. He directed many good films and some really terrible films in the 80s.

Love Julie, thiru thiru Murali, S.V Sekar hitting on Suhasini, arai vaaguvaan avo kittey, poor fellow, who can forget Vinu chakravarthi! I like him too. I watched it during the film release.
Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi..... Very good movie. Nadhiya, Prabu, Satyaraj...Music by Gangai Amaran is memorable too. Paalaivana rojakkal too around 1986... paarthutten!

"Sumangali" starred Sivaji Ganesan, Geeta, Sujata, Pushpalata, Prabhu, the absolutely hilarious :roll: Y.G.Mahendra and others. The story was borrowed from Hindi. Same old story that has been recycled thousands of times all across India in films of all languages. Don't know why they had to go to Mumbai to buy this tired old story, which I wouldn't bother to narrate. The beautiful and energetic Geeta and today's pick are the only good things in the film.

Today's pick was picturized on Geeta who plays a stage singer and dancer.

yes it is indeed pathetic that "asha " had to be borrowed! But in a moment of madness Aasha became athumping hit and so people naturally had to remake it!

MSV was valiant here as he was in Amara kaviyam but it was a lost battle , a lost cause.
As an MSV admirer I would rather not go into his 80s efforts for every gem you uneaarth you will find 10 so so songs ( hits maybe for other composers but not for mellisai mannar)

Pramila endha padaththil vandhaalum, enakku koodavae oru chinna bayam varum...Vaazhaiyadi Vaazhai-odu aarambiththa bayam, innaal varaikkum...But I must also say this: She was a fine performer who took on the so-called "negative" roles and turned in memorable portrayals. She was excellent in Vaazhai, Arangaetram, Thangappadhakkam, Sadhurangam...
Piriyaavidai...eppadaa theatre-ai vittu pirivom-nnu...you get my drift. :-)
"Rajaa Paarunga..." was a nice duet (Dhaekho Dhaekho-ji...hindi-il.) I have not heard the SJ solo you mention in years.
