Caught the movie today with the girlfriend and my family at Golden Village Singapore. Cinema was 90% full. The movie is nowhere near Anbe Sivam(AS) so don't compare. That said, it is a enjoyable movie in its own right. Kamal's ability to portray the entire spectrum of emotions believably is in full force in this movie. The story itself was something different. Very meta which I enjoyed. Was refreshing to see K.B sir on screen again. As the mentor to Kamal's character, he played his part perfectly. The standout performances though, in my honest opinion, were M.S Bhaskar and Nassar. The rest of the supporting cast were adequate and did their parts as requested. Though I personally wouldn't watch the movie again, mostly because of length, it was enjoyable enough for at least one view. Ghibran was also pretty good, with songs and BGM.
If I had to give it a score, I would give it a solid 3.5/5 for being an enjoyable rollercoaster of emotions.
Finally saw the move in CarMike Cinemas, Morrisville, NC ... Thoroughly enjoyed it all the way. Started around 6PM and ended about 9PM. Never felt it was too long although I would say it was not fast moving like a crime thriller. This is in a different Genre ... so cannot expect it. There is no necessity to trim - but hey we dont know how others will feel.
Crowds were not as much as in VR .. about 60% full. Hope it picks up in the weekend.
Just as a lot of reviews point out, its a ride filled with emotions and a fair dose of comedy. Of course its Kamal all the way .. looks dashing as Manoranjan. Wish he could focus on his looks a little more and get rid of the slightly puffed up appearance.
Special Kudos to KB sir and Nasser. Enjoyable BG themes from Gibraan.

seems successive BB for thalaiver. has it released across TN? why no reviews from fellow hubbers? whether it is releasing in north india or not?
Appreciation of any movie doesn't require mindless fascination or fanboy behavior towards an actor. From a nostalgic perspective, I also wish that RK and KH keep producing good movies. But, that is not the case. They have both slipped sadly.Quote:

And, this movie does fall flat, in my opinion.
An emotional drama. Written for actor kamal haasan through and through. Scenes between him and balachander were too good!.. Audience were overwhelmed. Very good response from theater.
Comedy in the 8th century portions should had been written better.
