bull,
bappi lahiri, can u believe it? he has scored a number of great songs, but is unfortunately remembered as a band baaja guy.
teri choti si ek bhool
char din ki zindagi
maana ho tum (starring Elizabethan director)
zid na karo
are all bappi's gems for yesudas.
SL: Having started oN S-J, I plead with you to give them their due place in HFM history by discussing them in detaiL here.I feel we have been unfair to this duo by not considering them for a deeper discussion whereas lesser lights like K-A , L-P and even Sardar Malik have been appreciated. They have their share of melodies and as far as orchestration goes, I feel they were the best, SDB and Salilda being close competitors. What say?
Bull: That AB film was "Mahaan".
Sorry to take away from the SJ slant at this stage (and Raj, sorry, to bring in a "lesser light" here ;-)), but has anyone heard LP's "prem hai kya ek aansoo" from Prem Kahani. What an absolutely unusual beat played on the tabla. And does one need to say how soulful MR can get with a sad song about love! Can anyone say what "thaalam" it is?
Why this lull? EngE ellArum?
S-J, in my opinion, were awesome the first few years of their career - Aah, Sree 420, Avara, Kanhaiya, Basant Bahar, Chori-chori, Seema, Barsaat, Love Marriage, Professor - to name a few. Unfortunately, after Jaikishen's demise, the SJ music started going downhill, being pretty unbearable towards the end..
Nalini: Did Shankar compose any music after the demise Jaikishen? I never knew that.
SRK, yes, Shankar continued to compose music after Jaikishen passed away, under the same banner. If my memory serves me right, Jaikishen died sometime between Brahmachari and Andaz. I forget the movies with "S-J" music that came after Andaz, but the quality steadily deteriorated.
Wasn't Kal aaja aur kal a decent effort by Shankar..
Ek din bk jaayega ..
Raj, Ek din bk jaayega is from "Dharam Karam" (MD : RD Burman). But yes, Kal Aaj aur Kal was a good effort.
Raj, I will try and post something on S-J tomorrow.
SL:Tomorrow never comes ;-))))
