Song: deviye naan saranam
Film: thanga thaamaraigaL
Singers: SPB, Chitra
Lyrics:?
Music: iLaiyaraja.
This is a nice but fairly unknown duet by IR from early 90s. SPB sings with his usual charm while chitra does the humming with ease.
I thought TT had Murali in the lead but according to FM, the film had Arjun and Rupini . When i searched online, i discovered the film did indeed have Arjun and Rupini and is directed by VAzhagappan.
(FM can never be wrong about paadavathi movies:).
maamanai paaru maalaiyai podu(chorus) is another good song from TT.

Song: megam rendu serum
Film: poi mugangaL
Singer: SPB
Lyrics: vairamuthu
Music: Chandrabose
A scintillating melody to conclude our SPB week.
From gayathiri to vaanam vasapadum, films based on Sujathas novels never found success at the B.O.(except for the highly butchered 'Priya').
Majority of his novels were either thrillers or mysteries. He occasionally wrote dramas. 'kaagitha uravugaL' was one of them.
This came as a thodarkadhai in saavi in early to mid 80's. I still remember the pictures Maa.Se drew for this story. The story is about a newly married woman's struggle to find a kidney donor for her husband. His kin, including his parents , refuses to donate.
He finally dies. ItS a sad story very well written by Sujatha.
After the story finished its series, 2 films were started based on it. One had Ambika and Rajkumar and the other was with Sulakshana and Ravichandran(kannada). The first one was never completed . The second one came out with the title 'poi mugangaL'. and it had a happy ending(and with lots of extra masala). Needless to say it was a flop. Kannada Ravichandran made his debut in this film and i think he was introduced as Rakesh.
The film boasted 3 good songs by CB.
'ingu naam kaanum paasam'(KJY)
'thottukondaal oar inbam'(KJY) and
today's pick.
Todays pick is one of my CB favorites. SPBs soft vocals , the violin interludes and VM's excellent poetry makes this song exceptional(atleast to me :)
