Director: Soundarya Rajinikanth & K.S. Ravikumar
Music Director: A R Rahman
Star Cast: Rajinikanth, Deepika Padukone, Rukmini Vijayakumar, Prithviraj, Sarath Kumar, Aadhi, Nassar, Jackie Shroff, Shobhana
Lyricist: Mehboob (Track #1), Irshad Kamil (Track #2,3,4,5,6), Raqueeb Alam (Track #8)
Expectations: Rajinikanth’s latest film Kochadaiiyaan has been in the making for almost six years and now it's ready for release. The movie has been made using the motion capture technology and is an animated film. It is India’s first of its kind. And when it comes to music, it has A R Rahman, the music maestro. Rahman has done a lot of experiment in music composing recently and most of the time we liked what he did. He is one of his kind and we are so excited to review this soundtrack.
1- Aye Jawaan – (AR Rahman, AR Raihanna): It is an anthemic song with alot of patriotism. Sung beautifully by A R Rahman himself and his sister AR Raihanna. Raihanna has a singing style similar to her brother, but she has not much to do in this track but whatever part she has got, she did it tremendously. It's not typical Rahman's soulful tracks. He has tried something different here. Very energetic and powerful song. Motivational lyrics by Mehboob. Rating 4/5
2- Dil Chaspiya – (Arijit Singh, Jonita Gandhi): A soft romantic track. The whole track is a beauty. The excellent blend of western instrumentation in a typical Indian classical melody is something only Rahman does best. The use of Tabla and Matka is superb. It will definitely remind you of the initial days of Rahman when he used to give similar heartwarming melodies. Arijit is marvelous behind the mic and does full justice to Rahman's tune. Jonita is also good. Lyrics are penned by Irshad Kamil and are very romantic and beautiful. Rating 4.5/5
3- Bol De – (Javed Ali): It is a very different kind of inspirational track. Starts with the powerful lines said in the dialogue form by the superstar Rajinikanth and such enthusiastic lines are being said throughout the song. It is the track which grows on you slowly. In the end, classical rhythm section sounds good. Lyrics are good. Javed Ali has sung the song in a melodious way. Rating 3.5/5
4- Vaada Vaada (Female) - (Shashaa Tirupati): A soothing and sweet romantic track. Sashaa Tirupati who has sung some songs for an album, does a great job here. Her vocals are so beautiful. Music arrangements are fabulous and Shehnai-use gives the song amazing touch. A sound which resembles Manjira-sound is being played continuously and makes the tune a true true winner. Irshad Kamil shines in the lyrics department. Rating 4.5/5
5- Vaada Vaada (Male) - (Karthik): There is no significant difference between female and male version except male-female vocals obviously. Karthik has sung the song nicely. Though composition keeps you reminding that it is a Hariharan-track. Rating 4.5/5
6- Mera Gham – (Shreya Ghoshal, Javed Ali): A classical based track with haunting tune. Perfect music arrangements. Shreya's heavenly beautiful vocals and Javed Ali's soulful voice make the song a treat to listen. Both compliment eachother very well. Lyrics are beautiful, romantic and lovable. Rating 4.5/5
7- Rana’s Dream – (Instrumental): Played by the London Sessions Orchestra. It is based on the lines of Aaya Khwaab Ka Mausam. Flute has been used and it gives you a Hollywood score’s feel. Rating 4/5
8- Aaya Khwaab Ka Mausam - (Raghav Mathur): This is the Hindi version of the same Tamil song which was released in October last year and received great appreciation. Very energetic track with the use of heavy percussion. Composition is perfect for the demigod stature of Rajinikanth. Tamil version is sung by SP Balasubrahmanyam, so it was an impossible task for Raghav Mathur to match him. He has given a good performance. It seems a war song and will be amazing in theatres. Rating 4.5/5
9- Thandav – (Chorus): A powerful track with heavy use of percussion. Chorus in Rahman's tracks is always so melodious and excellent and this one is no exception. Music arrangements evoke the grandiosity of a battlefield perfectly. A proof of Rahman's brilliance. Rating 4.5/5
FINAL THOUGHTS: Kochadaiiyaan is undoubtedly one of Rahman's best works in recent times. After a long time, A R Rahman has composed a soundtrack which is based on traditional Indian melody and this soundtrack will be remembered after decades as we still love the soundtracks of Taal, Roja, Swades, Bombay etc.
RATING BREAKDOWN:

Compositions.. 9.5/10

went to watch "Naan sigappu manithan" yesterday ( not a bad film) , in between they showed Kochadaiayn hindi trailer. it did seem pretty decent! Much better than my expectation
the trailer looks very good in big screen.. like it.. waiting :)
Highlights of what Rajini says :
@1:50:41 => I am really very shy you know !
- Salutes the honarable guests
- Rajmouli explained the difficulties of film making using motion capture, but I was not aware of them initially as I am just an actor and I am not technically sound, it neither insterested me nor I understood it.
- Before I fell sick, we started a Film titled Rana based on a folklore which is in the lines of films made by SS Rajmouli (Mahadheera, Naan E), but certainly it does not match the magnum opus he creates.
- I have made films with different genres - Endhiran (Sci-fi), Sivaji (Political), Chandramukhi (Horror), Baba (Spirtuality - Devuda Picture) : You did not like Devuda film but you liked Ghost film *sarcastic laugh*
- In all these films I am just an actor, nothing more. I releive you the open Secret - Kamal Hasan is the biggest actor. But me getting such offers in technical movies like Endhiran (Robo) or Vikramasimha (Kochadaiiyaan) is by God's play. Actually Kamal Hassan is very much interested in the technical aspects. More than an actor, he wished to became a director. For a person like him not getting a chance to do such films, but a person like me does it is mere God's grace. I am 100% sure no one else can get lucky like me, its like the philosophy that you get happiness when rare things falling on your laps and not with everything that you get.
- So two years I was ill, and then they narrated me the idea to make Kochadaiiyaan. They said its a prequel to Rana. Its about his father, Kochadaiiyaan.
- Doctor Murali instructed me to take complete rest for about 2+ years, advicing him not to act in any movies (irrespective to just action or songs) which gives physical strain. When the doctor told me that, I thought its impossible as Rana is on hold. He then comprised saying I can do 7 to 8 days of shoot. I asked him how it is possible, and he told that I can go ahead with Soundraya's Animation project Sultan, which was started without Montion Capture technilogy. When I saw just a 2mins cliping, a Thandavam sequence, Soundraya insisted me to do that role stating that she is producing the film. Well, if its a straight picture its OK, but now its a technical film, plus its my daughter who is doing it that I can't say a NO. I was worried - as a father seeing my daughter taking up this big responsibity, the time constrait (10 to 12 years in the making), the budget, Is our cinema ready for such ventrues etc., but they assured me that its all well planned. Hearing that, I accepted it leaving the burdens to be dealt by God himself.
- Irrespective to the sucess this film would make, I can assure you the hard work and effort put by the team. I have seen the mental pressure of Soundraya while doing this film. Hats-off.
- Shares his happiness to have a friend like Mohan Babu for his huge support and his Wife Latha for all her caring. He thanks them on emotional grounds.
- The diffuclty does not matter, the product should be good. For ex: all the efforts in making a briyani goes for a toss if it does not taste good.
- The film got censored, and I watched the film. Eventhough its my film, I always watch it with an audience mind. Basically because I came to the industry after having enjoyed and loved cinema as an audience. Even now I watch films just like the audience would do.
- I watched the film for the first time, only in 2D. For the 1st 10 mins I was disappointed. Practically speaking, seeing yourself while still alive as a 3D model was a bit disappointing (takes the use of NTR non-life models used as its beleivable and OK as he is no more). So its after about 15 mins, I started to settle down. I was pulled into by the character and the story, and then the animation started to die off. Thats why I am telling you, the 1st 10 minutes will be disappointing to see the 3D models, but once you get drawn into the story, the animation aspect fades away.
- When I watched it in 3D, its was just a big experience. A good story and narration
- ARR informed me that in Hollywood an animation picture is made for more than 7 years by Walt Disney.
- Its a musical film and ARR music & Dance only adds up the greatness to the animation.
- Kochadaiiyaan is a Warrior, Dancer & a Philosopher. He is the combination of all the 3.
- The films has got 6-7 songs and one of the song is sung by Mrs. Latha after a very long time. I have also participated in a song. So its basically a "musical-emotional-philosophical-drama".
- Its a first of a kind film in India. It is done by my daughter in collaboration with Eros. Thanks to Murali and he recollects his first hollywood picture Bloodstone procduced by him.
- By your well wishes and Gods blessing, I hope Kochadaiiyaan will suceed. Rajamouli himself has cared to explain to us how difficult it is to make a movie like this, but definitely you will see its effects on screen.
- I hope to meet you all in a much bigger function celebrating the hit sucess of the film. Every time I visit, the telugu audience praise me for my performence. So this picture is also different and I have played a different role in it and I beleive you will like it also.
- Namaste, thanks.
Nice interview. Seriously hope its accepted by the audience. As he rightly points out, regardless of the efforts put in if the final product fails to inspire then nothing can be said.
In between Tenaliraman , they put up a Kochadaiyan trailer, they are showing different trailers all the time, it did look very good, esp the sound, stunts and the visuals. Having said that RK's face looks weird some time! Rudra thandavam was really good, RK was as Charismatic as his 90's voice (Basha, Annamalai)
very candid. honest to the core while admiring kamal's talents or about getting disappointed in first 10 mt of the movie. real gentleman. thanks mappi.

Rajini to break his own record
Kochadaiyaan is getting ready for a huge release and looks like Rajinikanth is all set to break a record set by none other than himself.
According to ATMUS Entertainment, Kochadaiiyaan is slated to be released in over 100 locations in the US, and this will be higher than the screens in which his previous release Endhiran was screened.
It may be noted here that Endhiran’s Tamil and Telugu versions were released in 64 and 33 screens respectively in the US.

Watched the trailer on the big screen and all I can say is it has all the elements in it to become a colossal flop. I am seeing people jumping over others for criticizing the substandard animation, motion capture or whatever you call it. You need not match the standards set by Avatar or Tintin. Nobody expects TFI to make huge strides. At least match a Magadheera. If you spend 120 crores and make such a horrible animation, I really feel sorry for you, Soundarya. This is not your cup of tea. Please don't spoil your father's name.
Rajni's sudden entry into social media and his wish of Soundarya opting for the family way only doubles up my fear.

Cineworld says, release date is 9th of May, but show times not confirmed ? Any ideas UK folks ?
Could I invite you to see it another way ?
More of substantial materials were shared here in the past few months, rather than photo-shoped pictures, self-style acclaims and tweet trash dumpings. These materials were researched and synthesised to make a commoner easily understand, including the source materials for those who wish to look beyond. Personally, I never saw anyone been broken from expressing their views in this thread. Just that they were chanelised. If they did not get it, then they did not even understand what they spoke about. Even after explanations about CGI, 3D Animations & Motion Capture, their current market and their influence in our movies and the potential for its rise in TFI thru the film Kochadaiiyaan, still people try to look at it in a grandeur scale.
The most important plea was to give the team a chance. Rajini's voice coupled by ARR music will uplift the movie. All we have to wait and see is the imagination circle of Madame Soundraya & here orchestration of post production works.
And as a reminder, criticization of the visuals were never a topic of interest as its an individuals likeness. Only when the torments of making a film using this technology (for the 1st time) was mercilessly slayed and slaughtering the attempt by including baseless comparisons with high generation games was brought to notice.
I am aware that most of us are Rajini Fans, and I assure you that our fear is in sync. I only have a upper fear, as I deceided to walk on the rope. Never I had talked about a film in such a scale, and I am prepared to face the consequences if its a dud.
If the story and screen play is good, I'm more than happy to watch thalaivar movie. I'm not a tech savvy guy who understands nuch of animation.... But i'm interested in gripping story and entertainment.....Since i do not have full faith on technical team, I do have a fear this might be colossal flop in BO.....At the end seeing thalaivar on big screen after long time... this time with my kid....
Guys, Anyone live around DC/VA/MD area....?
