poo poothadhu - well here is a jazz number that doesnt break any jazz rules - yet this is our
very own Raaja song that we have grown up with. How can one song be familiar and
pleasantly strange to our ears? That is the magic that Raaja works in this song.
Going past the kid singing in a coarse voice, we enter a pure jazz region of piano and piano alone.
The piano meanders along improvising, taking turns along the wind - and reaches a "quite crescendo".
From the point the sax and drums - staple Jazz musical kit takes hold and eases into an auto mode -
Then voices begin - they are laid back supported by a blues vocal choir that is impressive and signature jazz.
The interludes begin and end in pure jazz style - but in between both the interludes - there is the "Raja-lude"
that we all knew and grew up with - It is Jazz, It is Blues and It is Raja - totally it is Rajazzz..
Awesome song on loop since yesterday evening and bound to stay that way for some time to come.
This is the real "Sugamo Aayiram" - thanx to Raja, Kamal, Sonu and Shreya and all the musical minds that moulded this song..

Oli Tharum from Vaalmiki. One of the finest melodies he has composed in recent times. Love the piano and strings! and the way he builds the charanam to a climax, pausing it there! Vintage raaja! (reminds me of the charanam ending in the classic composition "Ilam pani" from Aaradhanai). Valmiki might be a dud film but it is a very good album!

Ah, lovely pick there, Aakarsh! Valmiki is a solid album, but for Bela Shinde! :hammer: Love all the 3 melodies - booze irukkudhu, oli tharum and kooda varuviya. ennada pandi is made special by IR's singing. The other songs are not great but not too bad either.

aakarsh,
Thanks for the pick........

KV,
I like even Thendral Maarathu.. there is a beautiful flow in the song! a joyous flow particularly in the charanams. And the way he changes the whole canvas when it suddenly takes a detour to the lines "sippikkullle mutthu" (i think) and again joins back to the flow... brilliant! it is not easy to conceive such a detour! one needs to be very playful in mood, to do that, else it is convenient to go with the flow!
If anything, i feel only the 2nd interlude is slightly weak. But the song shows a very young-at-heart raaja!
Other songs in the album didnt impress me that much but my heart is already taken for Kooda Varuviya (will put in top 10 songs of Raaja in last 10 years), Oli Tharum and Thendral Maarathu! i give higher weightage to these 3 songs - so that the overall score for this album is higher :-)
