There are two things one has to look in to BO numbers. One is opening weekend and total collection. The ratio of opening weekend and total collection widely varies or differs for each and every actor. I think, for Ajith, the ratio is very high (0.25-0.3). We could interpret the data in to two ways either the total collection is lower or opening weekend collection is higher as compare with his counter parts. For example, comparing Mankatha Vs 7am aarivu etc. As someone said, it is due to the fact that his fan base, mainly young adults. On the other hand, he fails to attract general audience. That is very evident from the 2nd and 3rd week of movie collection. It could be possible that the there is a poor marketing initiatives or promotion from producer or distributor or the content of the movie or poor word of mouth. That’s being said, producers and distributors use different business model/strategy when they release Ajith’s movies. They have understood risk and reward properly. So the opening weekend is where the reward lies. AASCAR is very shrewd and he exhibited the movie in maximum number of theatres in Chennai, probably in TN.

Naan EE replaces Billa 2 from all bigger screens @ Chennai....
Rajamouli's Ee makes a historic comeback
After 3 weeks at the Tamil Nadu box-office, Naan Ee is just getting stronger and stronger. This Rajamouli film opened in more than 200 screens and continues to run in more than 180 screens even in the 4th week.
In its 4th week, lot of multiplexes in Chennai like Sangam, Abirami and Sathyam are shifting Naan Ee back to the bigger screens. Single screens like Kasi, Idreams and AVM have also accommodated Naan Ee again.
Such a comeback hasn't been seen in recent times and despite the fact that Naan Ee is a dubbed movie, the masses have just lapped up what they saw. The fantastic VFX and CGI have contributed to this dream end result. Looks like, the Ee will continue to buzz for many more weeks.
