There seems to be always something to bring up from this concert:-)
Initially, I hadn't paid much attention to the performance of Thumbi Vaa(IR singing). Shreya was alright, orchestration was great, but common music fan that I am, I didn't think beyond that. Then while surfing, came to know just how much malayalees like this song.
I was going through some malayalam songs when I found Thumbi Vaa from Olangal, and surprise surprise, it credited Chithra as the singer:-) So I had to listen to it! Loved it. But I was baffled, b/c it's a Balumahendra film and some said SJ had sung the song. I am not sure if another movie was released using the same song and title. I searched and found SJ's version on raaga. That's also good. For all those that have heard SJ's version, here's Chithra's:

I watched the One Man Show DVD IMHO it is the worst show I have ever seen. Even amateurs would have done a better job in signing. IR messed up most of his songs and also SPB, Jeyachandran, Yesudas etc songs too. It looked as if there was no rehearsel done before the show whatsoever. The instrumentalist did a great job even though a botched performance by IR. For every botched song he was excusing himself by saying "I know u (fans) will forgive me for that". This show portrayed what a egocentric individual raja is.

I think, expectations also were really high because of Jayatv concert. Most people went to the last without expectations, becaue IR hadn't done a show in more than 10 years in Chennai, and came out satisfied.

Today i watched a programme called "Iruvar" in Vijay TV particapted by SPB, Malasia Vasudevan, Chithra, Saindavi and Madu Balakrishnan. It was simply superb and it was better than IR's one man show.
Super selection of songs
Well taken rehearsal
Nice archestration
Good audio system
And they played 100% IR songs :D

Sanjeevi,
Been waiting for news of that one. Any chance of that releasing in DVD format? I would love to get a copy. Also, it would be nice if these channels(Jayatv,Suntv, etc) release original dvds of concerts.

What I liked the most in the "Iruvar" programme was the "dedication" to each other part wheRE SPB sang "aasai 100 vagai" song as dedication to MV, Chitra sang "Nilaave vaa" (!!!!) of SPB's and MV sang "mandram vandha thendralukku" song for SPB. Chitra's tiny improvisation in "Nilaave vaa" is much better than SPB's normal overdoing and spoiling effort. He did that to his most popular "iLaiya nila" , this time too. It is saddening to note that MV has lost his rugged voice[ due to ageing perhaps!!!]. My dream to hear my most favourite "aasai 100 vagai" in SPB's flamboyant voice was fulfilled :). It was also nice to hear Chitra sing "kannan vandhu paadugiraan" and "Sendhurapoove". SPB did a pleasing work of "nee partha paarvaikkoru nandri" ("Hey Ram").Sandhavi no doubt has a sweet voice, but lacks expressions in songs like "mudhal mudhalaga kadhal duet", "Germaniyin sendhen malare" . She has miles to go before she could be clubbed alongside legends like SJ, CHitra etc. Even her "partha gyabagam illaiyo" lacked energy. MadhuBalakrishnan sang most of MV's songs like "Kodai kaala kaatre" etc. The orchestration was good. Special mention to those who played the trumphets exactly like the recorded version.

The last I remember MV singing for IR was in Kaathaluku Mariyaathai. What happened after that?
